VILLAGE BOARD MEETING

The next Village Board meeting will be held  at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 8, 2009 due to the Labor Day Holiday.  All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

 

VILLAGE OFFICE

The Village Office and Court will be closed on Monday, September 7th  due to the Labor Day Holiday.

 

TRASH SCHEDULE

There will be no trash pick up on Monday, September 7th.  Monday’s pickup will be on Tuesday, September 8th.  THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 9TH.

 

TOWN OF COLONIE LANDFILL

The next Town of Colonie 2009 household hazardous drop-off waste date is September 16th  -   4 p.m. – 7 p.m.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1

The Menands Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary Family Picnic will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2009 from 12:00 to 5:00 p.m. at Ganser-Smith Park.  All members and their families are invited.  A sign-up sheet will  be   posted  in  the  Lounge  at  the Firehouse  or  call

Diane Brunelle at 463-6312.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY AUXILIARY

The quarterly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary will be September 9th at 7:00 p.m. (please note date correction) in the Firehouse.  Each member is asked to bring a one pound item (wrapped) for a pound party following the meeting.

 

MENANDS FARMERS MARKET

The Farmers Market in Menands, is located on Broadway just south of Route 378. The Retail Market is open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. closed on Sundays. Every Tuesday starting on September 15, 2009 at 1 p.m., the Menands Public Library will be showing a film staring either Marilyn Monroe or Jack Lemmon.

MENANDS ROTARY OFFERS HIGH SCHOOL JUNIORS THE YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING AWARD

The Rotary Club of Menands is seeking applications from high school juniors who live in Menands for the Youth Leadership  Training Award.  Applicants who are selected will join other juniors from the Capital Region and will receive special leadership training.  RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a successful, dynamic and fun filled activity program, which is held in the area one Saturday each month from October through May.  This is a scholarship award and there are no costs to the selected candidate(s) and one or more candidates will be selected.

Applications and detailed information can be obtained at the Menands School, Menands Village Office and the Shaker High School Guidance Office.Completed applications must be received no later than September 20th, at the Village office.  If you have any questions please contact Mel Horowitz at 449-817 or Ron Miller at 463-8144.

 

MENANDS SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Board of Education will meet on September 21st  at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.

MENANDS SCHOOL 70’S REUNION

The date is set for October 10, 2009 at the Menands Ball Park (Ganser Smith Park) at 1:00 p.m..  The cost is $10.00 and covers hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, soft drinks and coffee.  It would be appreciated if people could bring appetizers, salads or desserts.  We are still looking for representatives/volunteers from the classes of ’70, ’71, ’78 and ’79.  These volunteers would work with us to track down graduates in their class.  The next meeting will be held September 10, 2009, 7:00 p.m. at Poppy’s.  Contact Lauren Clemenzi at (basketballrocks42@hotmail.com) or Karen McGovern (kmcgovern@nycap.rr.com).

 

2009-2010 MENANDS SCHOOL/COMMUNITY CALENDAR

The 2009-2010 Menands School/Community Calendar has been mailed to all homeowners.  The calendar is also available in the main office of Menands School, Village Hall, the Menands Public Library and the offices of all apartments in the Village.

 

YOUTH BASKETBALL

Coaches needed.  The Menands Youth Basketball program needs a 3rd & 4th grade coach for the boys and girls teams starting mid-October.  Coaching experience not necessary.  Must be dependable and enjoy working with kids.  Initial training and ongoing assistance provided.  Please call or email Program Director, Ed Malone.  462-9433 or emalone@nycap.rr.com.

GARAGE SALE

The Sons Of  American Legion Squadron 1610 is holding a garage sale on Saturday, October 3, 2009 from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the North Albany American Legion Post located at 35 North First Street in North Albany.

The organization is asking for your support in this year’s fundraising effort.  If you have any items that you would like to donate, they must be dropped off at the North Albany American Legion Post 1610 between 8 a.m. and 12 noon on October 3rd.  We will accept all sellable items except: clothing, bedding, pillows, stuffed animals or any computers.  You can make arrangements to have some items picked up on advance.  Please contact organizer Kevin Kennelly at: 573-9244.

We encourage you to visit The North Albany American Legion Post 1610 on October 3rd and purchase items for sale to help the Sons of the American Legion Squadron 1610 as we support our Veterans.

SENIOR CITIZEN NEWS

On October 16th the Menands Senior Citizen’s Club will go to Lake George for a cruise on the Lac du Saint Sacrament to see the colors change in the trees and have some delicious food from the buffet.  We will stop at the outlet shops on the way home.  The price is $22.00.  Call Gert at 462-1860 or Susan at 472-9022.  The deadline is September 24th.  Be at Bethany by 8:45 a.m.  The bus will leave at 9:15a.m. SHARP.

 

PARKSIDE PRESCHOOL

Parkside Preschool is currently accepting registrations for the fall of 2009.  Parkside is a licensed daycare center and prekindergarten program accepting both full and part time enrollment of children ages 2 years 9 months through 5 years.  Parkside is open year round from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The Lyon Cub program is a part time toddler class, which runs weekdays, 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  This class offers an introduction to learning and socialization in a comfortable environment.

 Both programs are sponsored by The Bethany Presbyterian Church at 21 North Lyon Avenue adjacent to the Village Park.

The Class of 2009 graduation pictures are in!  Grade 8 graduating students who ordered a picture may pick it up at the main office of the school between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. during the week.
