VILLAGE BOARD MEETING

The next Village Board meeting will be held  at 7 p.m. on Monday November 2, 2009.  All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

 

LEAF MACHINE

The DPW began picking up leaves that are raked to the side of the road/street and will continue thru Tuesday, December 15th – weather permitting.  Mulched leaves and grass should be bagged.  Branches, limbs, etc. should be cut in 3 ft. lengths.  We do NOT accept any dirt in the biodegradable bags.  Please remember that it takes DPW approximately 10 days to go thru the Village depending on the amount of leaves at the side of the road.

 

WATER METER READING SET TO BEGIN

Monday, November 2, 2009 the Department of Public Works will begin reading water meters in the Village.

 

SEWER SYSTEM REPORT

The Village of Menands 2008-2009 Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System (MS4) Annual Report-Summary Version is available in the Village Office or  at the Capital District Regional Planning Commission website at www.cdrpc.org.

 

MENANDS FARMERS MARKET

The Farmers Market in Menands, is located on Broadway just south of Route 378. The Retail Market is open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and closed on Sundays.

October 31st – Closing Day – Halloween Fun

YOUTH ORGANIZATION

The youth organization is hosting the Village Halloween Party, Saturday, October 31st from 3-6 P.M. (NOTE TIME CHANGE.) This year’s celebration including the parade will be located at the Menands Farmers Market.  We will have a haunted house, hay rides, Halloween movies, fun activities as well as snacks and refreshments.  If there are any questions, please contact Brianna DiBiase at 469-7726.  Hope to see you there!

 

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY NEWS

The next meeting of the Menands Fire Co. #1 is on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 8:00 P.M.  All fire company members are invited to attend.  The Menands Fire Co. is always looking for volunteers to join the Company.  For an application, stop by the Menands Police/Fire Dispatcher desk.

 

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY AUXILIARY

The Ladies Auxiliary of Menands Fire Co. #1 Inc. will be holding their annual Bake Sale on November 3rd (Election Day) from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on the truck floor of the firehouse.  Any donations will be appreciated.  Don’t forget to VOTE!

 

 

 

 

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY

Tuesdays at 1 p.m., the library will be showing  films staring Jack Lemmon.

The 2010 Menands Public Library pocket calendars are now available.  Supplies are limited.  Please, one calendar per card holder. 

 

SENIOR CITIZEN NEWS

TAKE A CHANCE, TRY YOUR LUCK, November 3rd, the senior citizens are traveling to “TURNING STONE CASINO,” in Verona, N.Y.

Cost of trip: five dollars, that entitles you to a $5.00 meal voucher and either $25 free play on the gaming tables or $20 bingo bucks.  YOU DECIDE.  The bus leaves Ganser Smith Park 8:00 A.M. MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Become a “Blankeeter” by joining the Menands PTA and Project Linus (projectlinus.org), Albany chapter, for a FUN and REWARDING opportunity, benefiting children ages 0 – 18. This will take place on Saturday, November 7th between the hours of 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Menands School located on Wards Lane.  Come for an hour or two and show off your talents.

 Project Linus provides security through blankets.  It is their mission to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets lovingly created by volunteers like YOU.  You DO NOT, however, need any previous sewing experience whatsoever. Children are encouraged to help with this fun and    rewarding     experience.      Project    Linus,    Albany

Chapter, will provide the instructions.  Lots of wonderful fleece  has been generously donated.

CHURCH YOUTH GROUP

New youth group for St. Joan of Arc, the Black Catholic Apostolate, Sacred Heart and the Vietnamese Apostolate are planning events for the coming year.  Please sign up at St. Joan of Arc Church, everyone is welcome.  Join us on November 7th at 3 p.m. for a Fall leaf raking with a sweet apple cider and doughnut treat after the work is done.  We are having a children’s coat drive until November 30th.  We are asking for gently used and washed children’s coats.  For any further information, please contact Kirsten Suberg, Youth Group Coordinator at 631-9677.

CHRISTMAS BAZAAR

For that unique hand-crafted gift, luscious baked item, jams, jellies, pickles, salads or yummy soup, come to Bethany Presbyterian Church’s Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 21st from 9 – 3 p.m. at the corner of Menand Road and Lyons Avenue.  We’ll have hand-made knits, jewelry, Christmas items and second-hand items at our white elephant sale.  Start your morning with a cup of coffee and goodie served from 9 – 11 a.m. followed by lunch served until 1 p.m.  Hope to see you there.

 

MENANDS SKI PROGRAM

Once again the Menands Ski Program will be participating in the Jiminy Peak Ski/Snowboarding program.  The program includes 6 one-hour ski or snowboarding lessons as well as evening lift passes on Tuesday nights beginning in January.  Kids and adults of all ages are welcome.  Bus transportation is provided and departs Menands School at 3:30 p.m. to return at approximately 9:15 p.m.  Anyone interested in participating should contact Brian Rozmierski as soon as possible at 375-2221 for more information.

 

MENANDS SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION

The Board of Education will meet on November 16th   at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.
