VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The next Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 19, 2009. All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
LEAF MACHINE
The DPW will begin picking up leaves that are raked to the side of the road/street on Monday, October 26th and continue thru Tuesday, December 15th – weather permitting. Mulched leaves and grass should be bagged. Branches, limbs, etc. should be cut in 3 ft. lengths. We do NOT accept any dirt in the biodegradable bags. Please remember that it takes DPW anywhere from a week to 10 days to go thru the Village depending on the amount of leaves at the side of the road.
WATER METER READING SET TO BEGIN
Monday, November 2, 2009 the Department of Public Works will begin reading water meters in the Village.
SEWER SYSTEM REPORT
The Village of Menands 2008-2009 Municipal Separate Stormwater Sewer System (MS4) Annual Report-Summary Version is available by request in the Village Office. The full Report is available at the Capital District Regional Planning Commission website at www.cdrpc.org
YOUTH ORGANIZATION
The youth organization is hosting the Village Halloween Party, Saturday, October 31st from 4-7 P.M. This year’s celebration including the parade will be located at the Menands Farmers Market. We will have a haunted house, hay rides, Halloween movies, fun activities as well as snacks and refreshments. If there are any questions, please contact Brianna DiBiase at 469-7726. YOUTH BASKETBALL

The next meeting of the Menands Fire Co. #1 is on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at 8:00 P.M. All fire company members are invited to attend. The Menands Fire Co. is always looking for volunteers to join the Company. For an application, stop by the Menands Police/Fire Dispatcher desk.
MENANDS FIRE COMPANY AUXILIARY
The Ladies Auxiliary of Menands Fire Co. #1 Inc. will be holding their annual Bake Sale on November 3rd (Election Day) from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M. on the truck floor of the firehouse. Any donations will be appreciated. Don’t forget to VOTE!

Our feature business for October is Menands Tru Value Hardware.
Menands Tru Value Hardware was founded by Frank Esposito in 1980 and is owned by Frank, his wife, Bonnie and son, Tony. The business was originally a motorcycle and lawn mower repair facility that grew into a full service hardware store featuring paints and painting supplies, lighting and electrical supplies, plumbing, key reproduction, and garden supplies.
In 2004, a gift shop was added and in 2006, the “Just Ask” rental area was opened featuring a variety of devices for rent including floor sanders and other household and commercial equipment. In addition, party machines and equipment, such as popcorn machines are available.
The business employs ten people including nine full time and one part time person. The store is open from Monday through Saturday for sales and service. Repair services are offered for small engines including lawn mowers and snow blowers, pick up and delivery service is available.
Please stop and see Frank and his staff for all of your hardware and related needs.

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Tuesdays at 1 p.m., the library will be showing a film staring either Marilyn Monroe or Jack Lemmon.

For the youngest set Friday drop in Story hours will continue at 10 a.m. on 10/16, 10/23 and 10/30.
Teen Ready Week – October 18th to the 24th – This years ALA theme is “Ready Beyond Reality”. Teens and tweens are encouraged to read some science fiction. They can also stop by the young adult area for a take and make craft. Plus we’ll be viewing beyond reality with a film presentation of Twilight on Friday, October 23rd at 7 p.m. Registration Required – Please call 463-4035 or im Mrs. Neuman.
Family Evening Story Hours – For kids pre-k to grade 1 and their caregivers, we’ll have two events later in the month.

The Board of Education will meet on October 19th at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.

The Farmers Market in Menands, is located on Broadway just south of Route 378. The Retail Market is open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. closed on Sundays.

MAKE A DIFFERENCE
Become a “Blankeeter” by joining the Menands PTA and Project Linus, Albany chapter, for a FUN and REWARDING opportunity, benefiting children ages 0 – 18. Project Linus provides security through blankets to children who are seriously ill, traumatized or otherwise in need.
Give Your Time – spend an hour or two with us on Saturday November 7th between the hours of 9 A.M. and 3 P.M. making blankets for a needy child. Some fleece has been donated. We are looking for additional fleece donations. The Albany Chapter will provide the instructions.
