SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS - NOV. 2009

Our feature for November is a review of our latest semi-annual Menands Business Breakfast that was held on October 28th in the Fire House Hall.  These events are held in the Spring and the Fall each year to provide an opportunity for the Mayor and the Village Trustees to spend some time with our business owners and representatives in order to get to know them better individually as well as their businesses.

Our most recent breakfast was attended by over 40 persons and was highlighted by a presentation by Chief Peter Lattanzio of the Town of Colonie Department of Fire Services.  The Town of Colonie is providing Professional Fire Inspection Services in the Village as a means of assistance to help the Village meet its responsibilities for fire safety and prevention under the New York State Fire Code.  A full time fire inspector has been assigned to the Village to conduct the required inspections.  The program has worked out very well for the Village over the past several months and is a good example of intergovernmental cooperation benefiting a small municipality.  Indeed, several business owners commented that they had their facilities inspected and were very pleased with the professionalism demonstrated by the inspector.

Chief Lattanzio emphasized that the rule of the Department of Fire Services is to educate business owners of the need for fire safety in the workplace to protect employees, customers and property from the dangers of fire.  He also outlined the services that the Department has available to assist business owners to comply with fire regulations.

The Village Board will continue to pursue opportunities for other cooperative arrangements to the benefit of the Village business and residential taxpayers.
