VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The next Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 1, 2009. All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
VILLAGE PROPERTY TAXES
Keep an eye out for your Village Property tax bill, it will be mailed out on May 29, 2009.
REMINDER
All residents in need of a Special Trash pick-up MUST call the Village Office (434-2922) by Tuesday at 4 p.m. to arrange to be put on the “Pick-up” schedule. DPW will no longer pick up items left at the curb on Wednesdays that are NOT on the “Pick-up” schedule.
SPRING CLEAN-UP A SUCCESS!
The 5th Annual Village Spring Clean-Up was another great success this year. Dozens of bags worth of litter and debris were removed from our roadsides. Clean-up organizer Tim Lane would like to offer a big thanks to all of the residents who volunteered their time on Sunday, April 26th to assist in the effort to beautify our community and help our environment. A special thanks to Jim Holodack of All U Activewear who once again donated t-shirts as gifts to our volunteers. Thank you to all!
ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
A public hearing will be held on Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at 7:00 P.M. in the Village Municipal Building for the purpose of considering the following applications for variances:
Kristen Winners, 1 Jones Court, is requesting a variance to construct a deck on the property at 1 Jones Court.
Menands Mobile, 116 Broadway, is requesting a variance for a movable sign.
Anthony Nicholas, 240 Broadway, is requesting a use variance.
Such public hearings are open to the public and are accessible to the handicapped. All are encouraged to attend or to present comments in writing.

BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Department at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, roof or shed installation, etc. Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
MENANDS FARMERS MARKET
The Farmers Market in Menands, is located on Broadway just south of Route 378. The Retail Market is open Saturdays 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Sundays Noon to 4 p.m. The Market’s special event for May 30th is a Lawn and Tractor Show and on June 6th it will be Dairy Day. MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1
The monthly meeting of the Menands Fire Company will be held on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Ganser-Smith Park. All Fire Company members are urged to attend. **Please note time change** The Menands Fire Co. is always looking for volunteers to join the Fire Company. For an application, stop by the Menands Police/Fire Dispatcher.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZEN JUNE TRIP
Menands Senior Citizens Club will be going to the Mac Haydn Theater on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 to see “High Society”, a wonderful song-filled show. After the show we will be going to dinner at Kozel’s Restaurant in Ghent. Our meal choices are: Lemon Chicken, Broiled Haddock or Roast Beef. Cost $45. MENANDS FIRE CO #1 AUXILIARY
The quarterly meeting and June Picnic of the Menands Fire Co #1 Auxiliary will be held at the Ganser-Smith Park on June 10, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. The Telephone Committee will be calling to ask what each member will be bringing to the picnic. In case of bad weather, the meeting will be held at the firehouse. Members will be notified if there is a change.

MILITARY APPRECIATION PICNIC
On Sunday, June 14, 2009 (Flag Day) at Ganser-Smith Memorial Park from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. please join us in honoring the men and women of the military and their families with a fun filled day that includes live entertainment, food and beverages for purchase and fun activities for all ages. PICNIC IN THE PARK
On June 16th, the Menands Senior Citizens Club will hold their annual picnic in Ganzer-Smith Park from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Names will be taken at the monthly meeting on May 28th. The picnic will be catered by Poppy’s. The menu will be cheese and crackers, grilled split marinated chicken breast with or without barbeque sauce, macaroni salad, tossed salad, fruit salad. Also included are rolls and butter, vegetable tray, dip, lemonade, ice tea, coffee and desserts. Cost is $5. If you wish, bring a comfortable chair.
MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
The Library is proud to announce their participation once again in the New York State Summer Reading Program. We will be having lots of great programs for youth of all ages, for kids from preschool to grade 5 there will be activities and events under the theme “BE Creative @ your library” and tweens and teens programs will center around the theme “Express yourself @ your library”. Look for listings here, stop at the library to pick up a flyer or google us next week, our website will be up and running by June 1!
Volunteers-youth entering grade six and up are asked to volunteer at the library this summer. There are lots of great ways to help out. This year we will especially need help with our online reporting system and the Summer Reading Prize Raffle ticket table. We ask that you commit to at least six hours of volunteer time. Training Sessions-will be Saturday June 13th at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 15th, Tuesday, June 16th and Friday June 19th after school (3:15 p.m.) Snacks will be provided!
Join us for our Annual Ice Cream Social – Saturday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. We’ll have free fun family entertainment with Mr. Magicman at noon, ice cream of course and kids and teens can register for the Summer Reading Program which this year will have an online reporting system!
STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
Bethany Presbyterian Church is having its annual Strawberry Festival at Ganser-Smith Park on Menand Road in Menands Wednesday, June 17th from 4:00 p.m. to dusk. Fresh picked strawberries for strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream or strawberries with ice cream. We will also have char broiled hamburgers and hot dogs, salads, baked beans and beverages. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair and “set” awhile and enjoy the toe tapping music of the Uncle Sam’s Barbershop Chorus of Troy, followed by the Tri-County Banjo Band. Rain or shine!
