A special thanks to Jim Holodak of All U Activewear who once again donated t-shirts as gifts to our volunteers. Thank You to all!
SCHUYLER FLATTS QUADRICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION
On May 16, 2009, the Town of Colonie and the Town of Colonie Historical Society will host a Quadricentennial celebration at Schuyler Flatts Cultural Park located at 595 Broadway, Colonie from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. This is to commemorate the voyage of Henry Hudson up the Hudson River in 1609 and the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War. There will be a dedication of a new educational sign, historical presentations, exhibits, re-enactments of the French and Indian War, numerous musicians, booth exhibits, self-guided tours and food vendors. It will be a fun interactive educational experience for school-aged children and adults alike to learn more about Colonie’s significant role in the history of our State. In 1758, Schuyler Flatts was used as an assembly point for over 15,000 British, provincial and Native American troops to prepare for the attack on Fort Ticonderoga. Up to this time, this was the largest military expedition ever assembled on American soil. In 1994 Schuyler Flatts Archaeological District and the site of the former Schuyler Homestead was designated a National Historical Landmark by the National Park Service. Handicap parking is available in the public parking lot next to the park and general parking is available in the field centrally located in the Flatts. For further information contact: Alison McLean @ 783-2729.
