VILLAGE BOARD MEETING

The next   Village  Board  meeting   will  be  held  at        7 p.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

 

VILLAGE ELECTIONS

Village Elections will be held on Wednesday, March 18, 2009, from 12:00 noon till 9:00 p.m. in the Fire House.

 

PAVILION RESERVATIONS WILL BEGIN 3-9-09

All Village residents, tax paying businesses and organizations that are based within the village, will be able to reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in the Village Office beginning Monday, March 9, 2009 at 8 a.m.  A $100 refundable deposit will be required at the time of your reservation.  Reservations for use by non-village parties sponsored by a village resident will be accepted April 1, 2009.  There will be an additional usage fee of $150.  In the event that a non-village party uses the pavilion and park without being identified for the actual purpose by the sponsoring resident, there will be a loss of the $100 refundable deposit plus a $300 fee will be assessed to the sponsoring resident.

 

DOG COMPLAINTS

The Village Office is once again receiving complaints concerning dogs running loose and leaving “deposits” on resident’s lawns.  There is a leash law as well as a “pooper scooper” law in the Village of Menands.  Tickets will be issued and fines will be assessed to violators.

 

MENANDS FIRE CO. AUXILIARY

The quarterly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary will be March 11th at 7:00 p.m. in the Firehouse.  The annual Wine and Cheese Party will also be held.  Members will be contacted.  DUES are DUE and can be left in the Auxiliary Mailbox at the Village Office or contact the President.  Nominations and elections of officers will take place at this meeting.

Grades 4-8-Sat.Morning 9-12 noon, 

March 7, 14, 28

If the school is closed due to inclement weather (a snow day) there will be no open gym that evening.

LENTEN SOUP SALE

Bethany Presbyterian Church is again offering soup for sale during the Lenten season.  The second soup, Corn Chowder, will be available on March 20th.  One quart of soup costs $4.00. Homemade bread will also be available at $3.00 per loaf.  To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Judy Blair at 465-3295, or fill out a coupon available at the church or drop in on March 20th.  Soup will be available for pick up  between 3:00 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

 

 

 

SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS – MARCH 2009

As we continue our series on the diversity of businesses in Menands, this month our feature business is Wicked Smart Promotions.

Wicked Smart Promotions is a screen printing, embroidery and sign making business located at 6 Simmons Lane.   Owned by the father and son team of David and Michael McCarthy, the business has been operating for five years and been at its Menands location since 2006.

The company provides decorated apparel for team uniforms, school and social events, corporate brand wear, t-shirts, sweat shirts, pants and hats.  Wicked Smart also provides work wear, safety apparel and uniforms for Little League teams, cheerleading and several sports.

Wicked Smart has a national customer base and has the staff to help customers design their artwork for presentation on the apparel they have selected.  The company prides itself on customer satisfaction and prompt service.

The company started out as Breakaway Sports in Latham before evolving to Wicked Smart Promotions.

The business employs up to 13 individuals during its peek season and is looking forward to expanding its work force in 2009 as well as upgrading and improving its work space.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB

Remember the deadline for payment is March 5th for the St. Patrick’s Day trip to Beck’s Grove on March 17th. Bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. (Note Time Change) Don’t forget to make reservations for our special April 28th  trip for 2 shows and lunch at the Log Cabin with Gert at 462-1860 or Susan at 472-9022. DEADLINE April 9th. Cost is $45.

  

MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB

The next meeting of the club will be on Sunday, March 8th  at 12 noon. New members are always welcome. If anyone wants to march in the parade on March 14th be at the firehouse at 12:30 p.m.  Remember to bring $5. for the membership fee in order to march.

The Menands St. Patrick’s Dinner-Dance will be held on Saturday, March 14th at the Menands Fire House.  Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.  Entertainment will be from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m.  Adults $14, Seniors $10, Children (12 years and under) $7.  Take out is also available.  If you have any questions contact  Meg Grenier (463-5196).

MENANDS SCHOOL (70’s) CLASS REUNION

It is that time of year again!  Registration for Menands Junior Baseball and Softball is underway!!!

Registration is SATURDAY MORNINGS 9-12 at the MENANDS SCHOOL GYM LOBBY.  You may also obtain a registration form on line at www.Menandsbaseball.org. or call Paul DeDominicis (365-3388 or Steve Nicoll (462-3164) for more information.

CONGRATULATIONS!

We are proud to announce that as a result of her outstanding academic performance and diligence, Jayne Marissa Bolt of Glenwood Road has been named to the Hartwick College Dean’s List for the Fall Term, 2008.  Jayne is participating in the Honors Program, majoring in Mathematics at the Oneonta College.  Proud parents are Theresa and Jim Bolt.  Proud grandmothers are Theresa Tornatore and Hazel Bolt.  Good for you Jayne!!!
