SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS-JULY 2009

Our feature business for this month is Adventure in Food Trading, one of the most unique establishments in Menands as well as the Capital District.

Adventure in Food Trading was established in Albany in 1981 and moved to the Capital District Cooperative, Inc. (Menands Market) in 2007 under the new ownership of Guenther Management, Inc.

Under the Direction of Eric Guenther, President, and Gretchen Guenther, Treasurer, the business is a wholesale supplier of wild game, foie gras, caviar, imported cheeses, wild mushrooms, gourmet chocolate and a variety of other products.  The company employs six persons and has recently added a retail component to the business where the public is invited to make purchases at the facility on a “walk in” basis.

The business serves commercial and restaurant customers throughout the northeast from the Albany area up to the Canadian Border and into Western New England.  Local restaurants that use the company’s products include Milano’s in Latham and Yono’s in downtown Albany.  The development of outstanding customer service is the hallmark of their operating policy and individualized attention has become the norm.

The emphasis on quality and reliable service has earned the business a 2009 Small Business Administration Excellence in Business Award and most recently, designation as a “Best of the Region” business by Metroland Magazine.

Adventure in Food Trading is located at 381 Broadway in Building 7A and can be reached at 436-7603.  The business can also be contacted on the web at www.adventureinfood.com.
