VILLAGE BOARD MEETING

The next Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, August 2, 2010.  All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

 

BUILDING PERMITS

Please call the Village Building Department at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.

 

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY NEWS

The monthly meeting of the Menands Fire Company #1, Inc. will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the Firehouse.  All fire company members are invited to attend.

 

FUND RAISER FOR CHAD BUSH

The Menands Fire Company #1, Inc. would like to thank all the people and local merchants who attended or contributed to the July 11th fundraiser Concert in Ganser-Smith Park for Lieutenant Chad Bush.  It was a wonderful afternoon of good music and good food.  The event raised over $3,500 for Chad and his family.  We all wish Chad the best of luck in his long recovery process.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS

August 14th – Buffet Luncheon at Jackson’s Old Chatham House and the Musical Production “Mame” at the Mac-Haydn Theatre. Cost of $41 includes the buffet and show.

September 23 – We are going to THE LAKE GEORGE DINNER THEATRE, Lake George, NY for a luncheon.

Menu choices are: pork tenderloin, medallions of beef, broiled salmon or vegetarian pasta.  Each choice includes salad, rolls, vegetables and dessert.  After our meal, we will see the play “OUR SON’S WEDDING.”  Sparks fly as an Italian-American plumber and his strong-willed wife check into a Boston Hotel on the occasion of their son’s wedding to another man.  Following the play we will travel to Oscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg, NY.  Cost of entire trip is $45.  If anyone would like to receive a copy of the Menands Senior Citizen Newsletter by email please contact Diane at diwewe@yahoo.com

 

Reminder: Come in person to prepay and sign up at Bethany Church Hall for any of the trips on Thursdays from 10:00 to 2:00 p.m.

 

 MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY

Preschoolers and their caregivers can drop in Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. through August 11 for storytimes for the younger set.

Come to Ganser-Smith Park at 9:30 a.m. for the following programs sponsored by the library.

July 27  -  Bikini Bottom Party (It’s Sponge Bob’s Ocean home you know!)

August 3  -  Arrgh Mateys – Look out for High Seas Pirate Adventures.

Kids from preschool to grade five can sign up for the ‘Make a Splash Read’ programs and teens & tweens can signup for the ‘Make Waves @ your Library’ programs.  We’ll have lots of great programs, fun prizes and a few special guests, so stop in and pick up a calendar or for more details visit our website at www.menandslibrary.org

July 27th  -  THE SWIMMER - Ned Merrill (Burt Lancaster) tries to solve his existential crisis one swimming pool at a time.  Based on John Cheever’s short story.

August 3rd   -     MILLION DOLLAR MERMAID – An Esther Williams swimming extravaganza featuring a Busby Berkeley water ballet!

ATTENTION:  Starting August 1, 2010, the late fine for an over due book will be $.10 per day.  The fines on other borrowed items will remain the same.

 

3rd  ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST

Announcing the Third Annual St. Agnes Cemetery Photo Contest 2010. The deadline is August 15th.  Cash prizes will be awarded at a reception to be held at the Colonie Memorial Town Hall on September 22nd.  Amateur and professional photographers are invited to take photos of sculpture, artwork, nature and views with Historic St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands.  For details and a registration form, please contact KellyAnn.Grimaldi@rcda.org or call 463-0134.

 

WATERVLIET YOUTH SOCCER:

Watervliet Youth Soccer is adding a 4 yr old clinic to the program.  This program is 6 weeks and will take place during the regular Watervliet soccer season, on Saturday mornings time TBD.  The player MUST be 4 yrs old as of September 1, 2010, copies of birth certificates are required.  The cost is $35.00 per child – this includes a t-shirt.  Any questions please contact Brianna DiBiase at 518 469-7726 or visit our website www.watervlietyouthsoccer.org

 

CONGRATULATIONS!

Joe Condon was recently presented with the Police Athletic Leagues “Community Supporter” award at the annual Volunteer Recognition Dinner for the City of Albany’s Police Athletic League held at Crossgates Restaurant and Banquet House in Albany.  Mr. Condon and his wife Kathleen are residents of the Village of Menands.
