SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS—Jan., 2010

Our first business to be featured in this space for 2010 is DNT Express.

DNT Express is a wine distribution company located at the Capital District Farmers’ Market in Menands. The company was founded in July, 2003 by brothers Dan and Tim Nickels and  provides delivery service for 39 wine producers to over 2,000 customers throughout New York State.

Dan serves as President of the company and oversees all logistical operations while Tim is responsible for all administrative matters in his capacity as Chief Financial Officer.  DNT Express employs 21 full time and two hourly workers and covers a territory as far south as Rockland and Putnam counties and north to the Canadian border.  There are also daily runs as far west as the Utica-Rome area and down the I-88 corridor to the Binghamton area.

Operations begin each day at 4 AM when trucks are loaded and the drivers head out on their routes making deliveries to liquor stores, restaurants and other establishments that serve wine.  There are also daily trips to three locations in New Jersey as well as to Elmira where the cases of wine are loaded onto pallets and then placed into DNT tractor trailers for the return trip to Menands. After arrival back in Menands, the individual cases are then loaded onto DNT Express delivery vehicles. Deliveries are made five days a week to customers.

The company plans on opening a transportation hub in the Central New York area later this year in order to better serve their customers in western New York.

The next time you are enjoying a glass of wine at your favorite restaurant you can probably assume that the wine was delivered by DNT Express!!
