The Annual Meeting of the Village Board will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 6, 2009. The next Village Board Meeting will be April 20th. All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
A NOTE FROM THE MENANDS POLICE DEPT.
Chief O’Brien wants to remind residents who will be away from home for Vacation, etc. to make use of the Police Department House check program. Simply contact the Police Dispatcher to relay relevant information and your house will be checked three shifts daily by Officers during your absence. At the very least, please cancel your mail and newspaper deliveries. Piled up mail and newspapers are an invitation to thieves to take advantage of the circumstances.
DOG COMPLAINTS
The Village Office is once again receiving complaints concerning dogs running loose and leaving “deposits” on resident’s lawns. There is a leash law as well as a “pooper scooper” law in the Village of Menands. Tickets will be issued and fines will be assessed to violators.
TOWN OF COLONIE LANDFILL
Town of Colonie 2009 household hazardous drop-off waste dates are April 15 and May 20. Information and flyers are available at the Village Hall or call 783-2827.
YOUTH EASTER PARTY
Come and see! Oh, hurry, hurry on April 4th from 10:00-12:00 a.m.! For the rabbit, kind and furry, has been here again at the park and laid eggs in every nest we made! The Easter egg hunt will begin PROMPTLY AT 11:00 A.M. There will be a variety of activities including scrumptious bagels, donuts and refreshments. Please remember to bring an Easter Basket or bag to collect your Easter Eggs. If there are any questions, please call Brianna DeBiase at 469-7726. Hope to see you there!
MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1
The monthly meeting for the Menands Fire Company will be held on Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at 8:00 p.m. Elections for Line and Civil Officers will take place at this meeting. All Fire Company members are urged to attend. The Menands Fire Co. is always looking for volunteers to join the Fire Company. For an application, stop by the Menands Police/Fire Dispatcher.

The Annual Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary Installation Dinner will be held on Friday evening, April 17, 2009, at the Franklin Plaza, corner of 4th and Grand Street in Troy, NY. All members are invited along with one guest per member at no charge. I would like to see many members who we have not seen in a while come to the dinner and enjoy themselves. Please sign up in the Lounge of the Firehouse by April 6th. Menu choices are on the sign-up list. Don’t miss the chance to enjoy an elegant evening out and show your support for the Fire Company. MENANDS FIRE COMPANY ITALIAN DINNER
The Menands Fire Company is hosting an Italian Dinner on Friday, April 24, 2009 at the Firehouse from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dinner choices are Spaghetti and Meatballs, Ziti and Meatballs, or Linguini and Clam Sauce with Caesar Salad, Italian Bread and Rolls, Dessert, Coffee and Tea. The prices for the dinners are $8 Adults, $7 Seniors and $4 Children under 8. Eat In or Take Out.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZEN CLUB
An All 7 Senior Citizen Clubs of Colonie trip to the Log Cabin is planned for Tuesday, April 28th for $45. There will be 2 separate shows with a luncheon served in between. Call Gert (462-1860) or Susan (472-9022) for reservations. Deadline is April 23rd. REMINDER: membership dues of $5 are due.

MENANDS SCHOOL (70’s) CLASS REUNION
A reunion is being planned for all graduates from the 70’s. We are in the planning stages and are looking for graduates interested in being part of this reunion. MENANDS ROTARY HIGH SCHOOL SCHOLARSHIP AWARD - 2009
Each year the Rotary offers a scholarship to a high school senior and resident of the Village of Menands, who is going on to college. Criteria for the award are: PT jobs/extracurricular activities, services to others, need for scholarship, plans for use of scholarship and academic achievement. This year the prize will be at least $500.
Applications may be picked up at the Village office, with the completed applications due back at the Village office by May 1st. Certain application information must be certified by a high school official. Finalists will be contacted and interviewed by the Rotary Scholarship Committee.

QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT - TOWN OF COLONIE
A Public Hearing on the proposed 2009-2010 Budget for the Menands Union Free School District and the Menands Public Library shall be held at the Menands School on Monday, May 11, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. The budgets will be available for review on May 4, 2009 at the Menands School Central Office.
Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 13, 2009 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School. District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 13.
The annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands Union Free School District, Village of Menands, will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 between the hours of 12:00 p .m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items: to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD, to elect one Board of Education member to a 5-year term, to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library, to elect one Library Board of Trustees member to a 5-year term.
Nominating petitions for the Board of Education and Library Board of Trustees seats may be obtained from Patricia M. Miller, District Clerk, at Menands School. Completed petitions are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 20, 2009.
Applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from Patricia Miller, District Clerk, at Menands School. Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballot must be received by the District Clerk not later that 5:00 p.m. on May 19, 2009.
