VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The next Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 due to the Labor Day Holiday. All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
Note: The September 20th Village Board meeting has been changed to September 27th at 7 p. m. All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
TRASH SCHEDULE
There will be no trash pick up on Monday, September 6th. Monday’s pickup will be on Tuesday, September 7th. Tuesday’s pickup will be Wednesday, September 8th. THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8TH.
TOWN OF COLONIE LANDFILL
The next Town of Colonie 2010 household hazardous drop-off waste date is September 15 – 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Information and flyers are available at the Village Hall or call 783-2827.
MENANDS FIRE COMPANY NEWS
The monthly meeting of the Menands Fire Company #1 will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at 8:00 p.m. at the Firehouse. All fire company members are invited to attend.
MENANDS FIRE CO. LADIES AUXILIARY NEWS
The regular monthly meeting of the Menands Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary will be held on September 8th at 7:00 p.m. Our Historian, Kevin Franklin, will be giving a talk on the history of Menands.
MNANDS FIRE CO/LADIES AUXILIARY PICNIC
A picnic will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010 at Ganser-Smith Park for all fire company and ladies auxiliary members and their families beginning at 1:00 p.m. Food and beverages will be available, as well as activities for the kids. A sign up sheet will be on the board in the Lounge at the firehouse or contact Kirk and Theresa Montanye at 433-1385.
HUDSON SHORES ROTARY SEEKING JUNIORS FOR LEADERSHIP TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP
Hudson Shores Rotary serves the Menands and Watervliet areas. Each year the Rotary District serving Albany and it’s surrounding 8 other counties offers High School Juniors an opportunity to participate in RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards). On one Saturday a month, from October to April, a group from the entire 9 county area meets for a series of activities, speakers, discussions and challenges. Applications will be available at the Menands Village Office and Menands School no later than Tuesday, Sept. 7. All completed applications must be returned to the Menands Village Office no later than noon on Sept. 17.

Menands School PTA is accepting orders for beautiful florist size MUM plants – Available in yellow, white, burgundy, purple, pink and orange (rust) - $7.00 each. Brighten up your front lawn or the front of your business by purchasing these beautiful mums.

Orders must be placed and paid by September 13th.
Pick-up is Friday, September 17th 3:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Menands School Parking Lot. Plants not picked up by Monday, Sept. 20th will be donated to the school!

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Library’s fall film series will focus on Hollywood’s Dangerous Ladies: Ava Gardner, Rita Hayworth and Glenn Close. These stars have made a career by making trouble. Especially for the men who love them.
September 14th - The Killers - Ava’s the center of all the double crosses. Burt Lancaster’s film debut. Based on Hemmingway’s short story. The first 15 minutes is Hemmingway’s short story. Added to National Film Registry in 2008.
September 21st - The Barefoot Contessa – Everyone wants something from Ava but she will not give up her soul.
HISTORIC ST. AGNES CEMETERY OF MENANDS
Figure Drawing Workshop
September 24th 1 - 3 p.m.
Participants will learn proper drawing and shading techniques from award winning artist Randi Bentley using the cemetery’s classic sculpture as subjects. Bring a sketch book and 2B pencils and enjoy an outdoor art experience!

MENANDS SCHOOL BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Menands School Board of Education will meet on September 20th at 6:30 p.m. in the library of the school.
MENANDS SCHOOL CLASS OF 2010
Graduation pictures are in! They can be picked up at school between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On October 19th , we will go to the PLATZL BRAHAUS, Pomona, NY for an “OCTOBERFEST.” Upon arrival, coffee, tea, scones and homemade donuts will be served. Beer, soda and cider will be served until 5:00 p.m. Lunch at noon. Dinner Choices are Roasted Half Chicken, Roasted Pork or Sauerbraten.
A German Oompah Band and Folk Dancing are the featured entertainment.
There is a German gift shop and bakery on the premises.
Hot German Pretzels will be served at 4:00 p.m.

The 2010-2011 Menands School & Community Calendars are in! A calendar will be sent home with each Menands School student the first day of school. They will not be mailed out this year. You may pick up a School-Community calendar at the Park Lane Apt. Office, the Village Office, the Menands Public Library or the front office of the Menands School.

Youth Basketball Registration: Village of Menands Boys & Girls 3rd thru 8th Grade – Wed. 10/6 & Thurs. 10/7 – 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. @ Menands School Gym entrance. Reg. $20 per player or $30 per family. Uniforms if necessary available for purchase.
New this year! Coaches will conduct ‘pre-season’ workouts for new and returning players. The basketball workouts at Menands School will help players work on fundamentals and give new boys and girls the opportunity to check out the team and coaches.
