ST. AGNES CEMETERY

LECTURE SERIES PRESENTS:

The strange adventures of Mme de La Tour du Pin (Lucy)

The story of how the daughter of an aristocratic family was  transformed from an elegantly garbed and bejeweled lady of leisure to a hard working country farmer’s wife who made apple cider, tended crops and ran her own household on a Latham farm is poignant. Dr. Warren Roberts, author and distinguished professor of history, brings Lucy to life.  She is a joy to know!

Saturday, March 26th from 2 – 3 P.M. in the Map Room of Historic St. Agnes Cemetery, Menands

(Seating is limited.  Call Kelly at 463-0134 to reserve your seat or email KellyAnn.Grimaldi@rcda.org )

The Cemetery is located at 48 Cemetery Ave., Menands.  The Map Room is in the white building to the left just over the railroad tracks.  Donations to the Cemetery’s Heritage Society help make our lecture series possible.

MENANDS ELEMENTARY PLAYSPACE

In 1989 a group of enthusiastic volunteers formed with a mission to build an extraordinary playground at the Menands Elementary School.  Their mission was a success.

The time has come, twenty two years later, to retire the wooden playground.  There are exposed rusted nails and slivers are a daily occurrence from the aged wood.

A steering committee has formed to help guide the 2nd generation erect a new playground.  The steering committee meets monthly.  We encourage community-oriented people, parents, grandparents, as well as local businesses to join in our effort.  Currently, our focus is: grants/funding; removal of the current structure and the design of a unique playspace.  Please contact Melissa Mitchell to find out how you can help.  E-mail at Melissa.m.Mitchell@hotmail.com or call 512-4018.

FANTASTIC JOB MENANDS ROAD CREW

This has been the worst snow winter I’ve seen in a long time.  Kudos go out to our Menands Road Crew with many thanks to all.  Your constant vigilance cleaning up this mess was outstanding!!!  Very nice job people.

THANKFUL RESIDENT

I am a fairly new resident of this lovely little town and have been surprised at the hospitality of my neighbors.  This has been a challenging winter for this brand new grandmother of a less than year old child.  However on more than one occasion I have had my sidewalk plowed by one or two angels of mercy.  I have found Amsterdam Avenue a pleasant and comfortable place to live while I sit for my grandchild.  I can’t thank the folks enough for all  the help they have given me during this snowy winter.

More than thankful, a resident of Amsterdam Avenue.
