SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS – NOV. 2010
Our feature business this month is Riverview Center.
Riverview Center is located at 150 Broadway and is one of the most historic buildings in the Village. The building was constructed between 1929 and 1936 and was originally designed to be a series of additions connected to two main buildings. The structure was owned by the Montgomery Ward Company and served as the company’s northeast distribution center for catalog sales until 1980 when the building was sold.
After several years of inactivity, the property was purchased by Riverview Assets in October, 2004. Riverview Assets is located in New York City and provides property management services in several locations. A staff of 13 people under the direction of Property Manager Joel Burtman oversees the supervision of the building.
Today the building offers 977,780 square feet of rentable space and includes a mix of private and public sector tenants. The State of New York leases space in the building for several State agencies and there are two private anchor tenants, Vicarious Visions and Computer Services Corporation, as well as other private companies that lease space. About 1,900 people work in the building every day.
There are many amenities in the building including a convenience store, a fitness center, a café and a walking trail that is easily accessible by a footbridge.
Riverview Assets recently purchased property at 169 Broadway to provide for additional parking and warehouse space for current and prospective tenants.
The Village of Menands has and continues to work closely with Riverview Assets to be pro-active in the use of the property and to find new ways to expand its use.
If you would like to learn more about Riverview Center or are interested in renting space there, please call Joel Burtman at 434-0044 or visit their website at www.riverviewcenter.com

HELP PLAN YOUR LIBRARY’S FUTURE
The Menands Public Library is about to craft its new five year plan. The library’s Board of Trustees will try to envision five years into the future and then establish the means by which we can meet this goal. We need your help to envision the future. The Board of Trustees needs your comments and suggestions in order that the library can successfully serve the village.
In the library there will be a suggestion box to write down your suggestions or comments. You can also go to the library’s website at www.menandslibrary.org and log onto our Facebook page or email the library at zapalal@uhls.lib.ny.us.
MENANDS SKI PROGRAM
Once again the Menands Ski Program will be participating in the Jiminy Peak Ski/Snowboarding program. The program includes 6 one-hour ski or snowboarding lessons as well as evening lift passes on Tuesday nights beginning in January. Kids and adults of all ages are welcome. THE WIZARD OF OZ
Skip down the Yellow Brick Road toward adventure, enchantment and sheer magic as the Missoula Children’s Theatre and many of our local students present THE WIZARD OF OZ at Menands School on Saturday, December 4th at 2:00 p.m. This production is part of the Missoula Children’s Theatre’s unique international touring project and is sponsored by Menands School and the PTA. Come see our wonderful budding actors and actresses! Tickets are $2.00/adults, $1.00/child or $5.00/family and are available at the door.
INCLEMENT WEATHER & SCHOOL CLOSINGS
When there is inclement weather, residents should tune to WGY, WROW or WTRY radio as well as TV channels 6, 10 or 13 for school closings or late openings. If the Menands School is opening later due to weather, all bus runs will be delayed in Menands. For example, if the Menands School is opening one hour late, then all buses transporting students outside the district will also be running one hour later. If the Menands School is closed due to weather, transportation to high schools and private schools will be at the discretion of the Superintendent. Also, when school is canceled during the day, after-school and night activities at the school are also canceled.
If parents have changed home and/or work phone numbers or emergency contacts, please contact Menands School at 465-4561 to update contact information.
INDOOR FARMERS MARKET-AT JOAN OF ARC
Beginning this weekend, the Youth Group will be holding a Farmers Market after the Saturday 4:00 p.m. mass and after Sunday masses at 10:15 and 11:30 a.m. You will be able to purchase FRESH fruits and vegetables at a reduced price because we will be getting the produce directly from wholesalers, but will allow us to clear a small profit.
