VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Annual Village Board Organizational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 7, 2008.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.
    
PAVILION RESERVATIONS
All Village residents, tax paying businesses, and organizations that are based within the village, are able to reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in the Village Office Monday thru Friday 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.  A $100 refundable deposit will be required at the time of your reservation.  Reservations for use by non-village parties sponsored by a village resident will be accepted April 1, 2008.

DUMPSTER RESERVATIONS  BEGIN APRIL 1ST
Beginning April 1st the Village Office will be taking reservations for the Dumpster on a FIRST COME – FIRST SERVE BASIS.  The Village DPW will loan the dumpster to Village residents only, for their personal use.  No contractor’s debris will be accepted.  The Village crew will leave the dumpster in your driveway on a Wednesday and pick it up the following Wednesday.  Mark your calendar for April 1st to stop in or call the Village Office at 434-2922 to schedule the drop off of dumpster.

TOWN OFCOLONIE LANDFILL
Town of Colonie 2008 household hazardous drop-off waste dates are April 16 and May 21.  Information is available at the Village Hall or call 783-2827.

2008 SPRING-SUMMER YOUTH EMPLOYMENT
Applicants must be residents of the Village of Menands and be at least 15 and be in high school or college.  Applications for Employment MUST be completed and may be obtained from the Village Office Monday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.  Working papers (if under the age of 18) must be attached to completed applications and returned to the Village Office.  Positions will be filled on a FIRST COME – FIRST SERVE BASIS.  (No Exceptions).
POSITIONS:

1.  Concession Workers & Umpires – work  evenings and week ends during the Menands Jr. Baseball and Softball League Season (between late April and mid June).

2.  Park Program Workers – work the 2 week Red Cross Swim Program and the 5 week Park Program (average 3 hours per day – longer hours on bus trip days).

3.  DPW Workers – A limited number of youth (16 and older) will be hired to work in the D.P.W. during the spring/summer months.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1 NEWS
The next monthly meeting of the Menands Fire Company #1 will be on Tuesday, April 1, 2008 at 8:00 p.m.  Elections for Line and Civil Officers for 2008-2009 will be held at this meeting.
 The  Fire Company  welcomed  another   new   member, Michael  Steurer,  North  Lyons  Avenue,  at  the  monthly meeting held on March 4, 2008.

SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS-March 2008

Tangora Technologies, Inc. was founded by Michael Tangora as a home-based business in Delmar in 1996.  The company specializes in heating and cooling, entertainment, and technology in New York’s Tech Valley Region.  Tangora Technologies enhances lifestyles by providing products and services for safety, security, comfort and entertainment.  The company moved to 293 Broadway in Menands in September of 2007 and features a new showroom at their Menands location.
Michael serves as President while his wife, Heather, is the chief financial officer.

FIREFIGHTER  MEMORIAL  MASS
A memorial mass will be held for Edgar H. Scott on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Joan of Arc Church on Menand Road.  All Fire Company members are requested to attend in full dress uniform.  A reception for Fire Company and Auxiliary members and their families will be held at the Firehouse after the Mass.

MENANDS ROTARY BBQ-FUNDRAISER
AND
MENANDS SCHOOL 2ND ANNUAL BASKET BONANZA:
Friday, April 4th from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. eat in or take out complete Giffy’s BBQ Chicken Dinner at the Menands School Gym. (note location change) Cost - $9.  Pre-orders are welcome.  Proceeds help fund Community Programs/Projects. Contact Ron Miller at 463-8144 (H/O).
In addition from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. there will be the annual basket bonanza also at Menands School Gym for our PTA sponsored event to benefit the Drama Club.  Prizes include a bike, a Wii and a Kayak plus classroom themed baskets and many donations from local businesses.  Tickets can be purchased at the play, Saturday March 29th and the week of March 31st at the school for a presale price of 1 ticket - 75 cents; 10 tickets - $5; 25 tickets - $10. MENANDS LIBRARY NEWS
Tuesdays at 10 a.m. beginning in March and continuing until May 20th , stop by for stories, songs and crafts.  Some weeks there may be a special snack.  Children ages six months to five years and their caregivers are welcome.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On April 11th we will be going to a Italian Festival at the Log Cabin in Massachusetts for dinner and the entertainment will be Mike Verselli, an impressionist.  Cost $41.  NAMES AND RESERVATIONS ARE BEING TAKEN NOW. BOATING SAFETY COURSE
Safe boating and legal practices are taught in this course introducing boating to all. Students completing course earn a NYS Boater safety certificate. Ages 14 and above are required to complete this 8 hour instructor administered course and exam.  This is for personal watercraft. Operators aged 10-18 will be permitted to operate a boat by themselves without a person 18 or older. Open to all with photo ID.  Course fee is $30.  Adults pay a mandatory fee of $10 to NYS Parks and Recreation.  Proceeds benefit Menands Rotary for their scholarship fund.  Course is taught at Menands Fire Hall (above firehouse) Saturday May 3rd 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Boy Scouts will provide a light lunch for $5.  To preregister (no walk ins) contact Peter Mason 449-8711.

MENANDS SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB
Needs your help!  Cleaning out your closets?  This year’s production Seussical the Musical is once again looking for your donations to help with outfitting the outlandish citizens of Dr. Seuss’ favorite tales.  Kids sizes medium (8-10) up to adult size medium.  Should be BRIGHT colored shirts, skirts, shorts, tie died shirts, and ANIMAL PRINTS!!!
Drop off at the Menands School lobby before Wednesday March 19 or call our costume coordinator Lisa Neuman at 469-7127 for a pick up.  The show will be Saturday March 29th at 7 p.m. Hope to see you there and thanks for your support.

PLAY BALL!!!!!
Registration is underway!  Registration is every Saturday during March from 9 a.m. to noon at the MENANDS SCHOOL GYM LOBBY. Tee Ball boys and girls ages 5-6,
Baseball ages 7-13 and Softball ages 7-14.
We also need volunteers to help with field preparation, concession stand preparation and COACHING!!!
Please join the fun and help us continue the proud tradition of Junior Baseball in our village.

MENANDS SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
If you are a resident of the Menands Union Free School District and have a child who will be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2008, please call the Menands School at 465-4561 to register for the upcoming school year.  You will be sent a registration packet in the mail.

Items to be included in the next edition of the Menands Activities dated April 4, 2008 WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN THE VILLAGE OFFICE AFTER 9 A.M. Monday, March 31, 2008.
