SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS-January 2008
Our feature business for the first column for 2008 is Blasch Precision Products.  The company is located at 580 Broadway and is a manufacturer and designer of industrial ceramic products.  Blasch currently employs over seventy people under the leadership of David Bobrek, President and Chief Executive Officer.
Founded in 1979, the company has been located in Menands since 1995.  In 2006, the company became an employee owned company, which has helped the company and its partners/employees to make rapid progress to ensure the consistency and performance of the products they provide to their customers.
Blasch produces and markets specialty ceramics and refractory components for companies operating in the petroleum, chemical, power generation, pollution control, and process heating markets.  The company has customers throughout the world and has been growing steadily while adding additional jobs in Menands.
One of the company’s growth areas has been in Western Canada with firms doing business in the oil sands market.  The company is also becoming more competitive in the flue gas desulfurization market.  Flue gas desulfurization is the current state-of-the-art technology used to remove sulfur dioxide from exhaust gases created during power production at coal and oil-fired electric generating plants.
Blasch is the fifteenth largest manufacturer in the Capital District and is an important contributor to the local economy.  Accordingly, the Village Board is working in conjunction with the Albany County Executive’s Office as well as the New York State Department of Economic Development to have the company designated as a Regionally Significant Manufacturer.  This designation will qualify the company for special State assistance that will help the company remain in Menands.
For more information on Blasch Precision Ceramics, please see the company website at www.blaschceramics.com.
