VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, October 1, 2007.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

D.P.W. HOURS
On Monday, October 1, 2007, the D.P.W. hours will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 8 a.m. on your scheduled days.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS
Road  work  is  being  done  on Park Drive, Spyglass Hill,
Edgewood Circle and MacDonald Circle Extension for the next few weeks.  Please proceed with caution in these areas.

ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH
Our Religious Education program at St. Joan of Arc Church is starting Sunday, Sept. 30th  from 9 – 10 a.m. for grades Kindergarten through 10th  grade.  If you have any questions, please call Kirsten Suberg at 373-9162.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY CO, #1, INC. NEWS
The Oct.  meeting will  be Tuesday, October  2 at 7 p.m.

TURKEY DINNER
Mark your calendars!!  There will be a Turkey Dinner (with all the “trimmings”) at the Menands Firehouse on Wednesday, October 3rd  from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.   Menu:  Roast Turkey, homemade stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, cranberry sauce, rolls, home-baked desserts and beverage.  Adults $9, Seniors $8, Children (under 10) $5.  Eat In or Take Out.  The dinner will be prepared and served by the Menands Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.  This dinner is open to the public – we look forward to seeing you there!

ATTENTION: FIRE CO. LADIES AUXILIARY
All members are asked to bake a dessert (pie, cake, brownies or cupcakes) for the upcoming Turkey Dinner.  They may be dropped off at the firehouse on Wednesday, October 3rd  between noon and 4:30 p.m.  Thank you.

ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
The Albany Evening Garden Club is establishing perennial flower beds in front of the Menands Public Library.  If you are interested in donating a cutting or two of your perennials, in particular: hybrid daylilies, hosta,  flox, coneflower or bee balm, please call Kathy Schanz at 462-1645.  All donations would be welcome.

MENANDS YOUTH BASKETBALL
Boys and girls in grades 3 thru 8, who live in Menands are invited to participate in the Menands Youth Basketball program.  Information sessions will be held October 18th  and 23rd  at Menands School 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. followed by 6:30-7:30 p.m. registration.  Refreshments will be served.  Call Program Dir. SPOTIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS – Sept. 2007
Our feature business for this month is GCR Truck Tire Center.
The company has been located at 200 Broadway in Menands since the early 1960’s and is part of a worldwide organization headquartered in Austin, Texas.  GCR specializes in the complete range of tire service offering customers any size tire.
The Manager of the company is Rick Quick, who is assisted by Linda Marro, Assistant Manager.  Eleven employees help provide sales and customer support throughout the company’s service area which includes the Greater Capital District and as far west as Gloversville and as far east as Vermont.  The company also has customers in New York City and Canada.
An outside sales staff is responsible for recruiting and servicing customers while service technicians are available to assist customers at their place of business.  The company does an extensive farm vehicle business and GCR employees are available to provide assistance on farms as needed.
The company does 80 % of its business with commercial customers but also provides tire service to individuals.  Hours of operation are 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with Saturday hours from 8:00 a.m. to Noon.  The company prides itself in offering “24/7” service to any of its commercial customers.

PARKSIDE PRESCHOOL
The Bethany Presbyterian Church and Parkside PreSchool are pleased to announce a new program for children ages 18 months through 3 years.  The Lyon Cubs will operate as a Nursery School program opening on Monday, October 15, 2007.  Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  An age appropriate curriculum will foster social and cognitive development.  A light mid-morning snack will be provided.  Class size is limited.  Scheduling is flexible based on a first come/first serve basis.  For information and registration contact Debbie Koumjian at 449-2999.

CHICKEN BBQ AT PARKSIDE PRESCHOOL
Parkside PreSchool will be sponsoring Giffy’s Chicken BBQ Dinner on October 11th  from 4:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church.  Cost is $10 per dinner, which includes: ½ chicken, potato, cole slaw, dinner roll, drink and cookie.  Dinners will be served on a first come first serve basis.  Please come and support us if you can!

TOWN OF COLONIE LANDFILL
Town of Colonie 2007 household hazardous drop-off waste date is October 3rd  (4p.m. – 7 p.m.).  You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273.  Information is available at Village Hall or call 783-2827.   

 
SPECIAL TOURS OF ALBANY RURAL CEMETERY
The Albany Trolleys are offering special tours that highlight the rich history of Albany Rural Cemetery under the guidance of Albany Rural’s President Peter Hess.
The Did You Know Tour highlights little-known facts about the cemetery, including that among those buried in Albany Rural are two Titanic survivors, three drafters of the Constitution, one U.S. President, and seven governors of four different states.  The tour is scheduled for 10 a.m. on October 20.
The second special tour, Albany’s Political Graveyard, focuses on the once-powerful players in New York State government who have influenced history and are buried in Albany Rural.  This tour is being offered at 10 a.m. on  November 17.
Tours meet at the Chapel in Albany Rural (enter from Broadway in Menands).  Refreshments will be served prior to the tours.  Cost is $25 per person.  Reservations are required by calling 518-462-3825.

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Fall into Storytime – Tuesdays at 10 a.m, the library will have drop in storytime.   Come in for songs, stories, crafts and snacks.

The SBSV Festival committee is searching for the Queen (and her court) to make an appearance at this year’s October festival at the Capital Region Farmers Market.  If you have “seen her” or know how to contact her, please have her call Paul Rapello at 424-6854 or Robin Demers at 489-8876.

FALL FESTIVAL IN MENANDS
Looking for something fun to do October 12th  through the 14th  ?  Then come to the Festival in the Capital District Farmers Market  (381 Broadway, Menands/Albany) sponsored by Saint Joan of Arc, Black Catholic Apostolate, Sacred Heart and Vietnamese Apostolate.  Take a spin on an amusement ride, have fun with games to show off your skills, visit with local businesses and support organizations, get a start on holiday shopping with local and regional vendors, and dine on your favorite festival foods!   

Hours for the Festival are:
        Friday   -  October 12th  -   5:00 p.m.  -  9:30  p.m.
           Saturday   -  October 13th  -  11:00 a.m.  -  9:30 p.m.
         Sunday   -  October 14th  -         Noon    -  5:00 p.m.
