VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, September 17, 2007.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicap accessible.

D.P.W. HOURS
On Monday, October 1, 2007, the D.P.W. hours will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m.  Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 8 a.m. on your scheduled days.

Now featuring tables of several Menands Community Organizations.   If your organization would like to reserve a table to promote your services (such as “Community Friends and Neighbors”) and/or your fundraiser, contact us and we will gladly have you join this event.

MENANDS FIRE CO. LADIES AUXILIARY
The quarterly meeting of the Menands Fire Co. #1 Ladies Auxiliary will be held on Wednesday, September 12th at 7:00 p.m. at the firehouse.  All members are urged to attend this very important meeting.   

MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR ISABELLE SANFORD
Who passed away June 25th  2007
A memorial service to celebrate Isabelle’s memory and contribution to the community will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethany Presbyterian Church in Menands, corner of Menands Road and North Lyons Avenue.
A light reception will follow.  For further information, please contact Rev. Shannon Meacham at 463-8217.

EMERGENCY SERVICES APPRECIATION PARADE
On Sept. 15th, the Village of Menands will be hosting a parade in honor of Captain Scott, for the emergency service workers who helped Menands during our time of need.  The parade will start at Riverview Center at 1:00 p.m. and will go down Broadway to Menand Rd. and end at the park.  Please come out in support of these men and women and watch the parade.  There will be some road closings and parking restrictions during this time.  Please contact the Village Office for details.

MENANDS SCHOOL NEWS
The 2007-2008 Community Calendars have been mailed to all homeowners.  The calendars will also be available in all apartment rental offices, the Village Hall, the Menands Public Library and in the main office of the Menands School.
The next meeting of the Board of Education is Monday, September 10, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.  All meetings are handicap accessible and open to the public.

Menands School PTA is accepting orders for beautiful florist size MUM plants: available in yellow, white, burgundy, purple, pink and orange (rust) - $6.00 each.  Brighten up your front lawn or the front of your business by purchasing these beautiful mums.  Please pre-order by calling Catherine Mattice 463-8759 or Tarasha Darden-McKoy 436-0994 (evenings) or pick up an order form in the Menands School Office.  Orders must be placed and paid by September 11th .  Pick-up is Friday, September 14th, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Menands School Parking Lot.

SPECIAL TOURS OF ALBANY RURAL CEMETERY
The Albany Trolleys are offering special tours that highlight the rich history of Albany Rural Cemetery under the guidance of Albany Rural’s President Peter Hess.
The Did You Know Tour highlights little-known facts about the cemetery, including that among those buried in Albany Rural are two Titanic survivors, three drafters of the Constitution, one U.S. President, and seven governors of four different states.  The tour is scheduled for 10 a.m. on October 20.
The second special tour, Albany’s Political Graveyard, focuses on the once-powerful players in New York State government who have influenced history and are buried in Albany Rural.  This tour is being offered twice: 10 a.m. on September 22 and 10 a.m. on November 17.
Tours meet at the Chapel in Albany Rural (enter from Broadway in Menands).  Refreshments will be served prior to the tours.  Cost is $25 per person.  Reservations are required by calling 518-462-3825.

PARKSIDE PRESCHOOL      
The Bethany Presbyterian Church and Parkside PreSchool are pleased to announce a new program for children ages 18 months through 3 years.  The Lyon Cubs will operate as a Nursery School program opening on Monday, October 15, 2007.  Classes will be held Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.  An age appropriate curriculum will foster social and cognitive development.  A light mid-morning snack will be provided.  Class size is limited. Scheduling is flexible based on a first come/first serve basis.

Town of Colonie 2007 household hazardous drop-off waste dates are Sept. 12 and Oct. 3 (4 p.m. – 7 p.m.)  You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273.  Information is available at Village Hall or call 783-2827.

2007 MAYOR JOHN WEIDMAN
MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The Annual John Weidman Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on September 14th, at Burden Lake Country Club. Proceeds will be donated to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  The cost per golfer is $90 which includes; golf, cart, breakfast, dinner, and door prize.  Registration and breakfast are between 9:00 AM and 9:45 AM followed by a 10:00 AM shotgun start.  Dinner will follow in the clubhouse along with awards and raffles.  Please make check payable to The John Weidman Memorial Tournament and mail to John Murphy at 250 Broadway, Menands, N.Y. 12204.  Dinner only is $25. per person.  Any questions please call John Murphy at 857-0639.                           

TURKEY DINNER
Mark your calendars!!  There will be a Turkey Dinner (with all the “trimmings”) at the Menands Firehouse on Wednesday, October 3rd  from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m.  Eat-In or Take-Out.  Menu includes:  Roast Turkey, homemade stuffing, real mashed potatoes and gravy, vegetable, cranberry sauce, rolls, home-baked desserts and beverage.  Adults $9, Seniors $8.00, children (under 10) $5.  The dinner will be prepared and served by the Menands Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary.  This dinner is open to the public – we look forward to seeing you there!

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
How about joining us on Wed., September 19th and go to Otesaga Hotel for one of their fabulous buffets and then a tour of Cooperstown?  We also go on a boat tour of the Erie Canal.  Have you ever been thru a Canal Lock?  We will also have time to shop at the Gems on the Mohawk.  This is a boutique shop that sells the hand made products of over 65 local craft people.  Contact Pat at 436-8772 or Marge at 434-2759 to attend this great trip.  The price for this trip is only $35.  The payment deadline is September 6th .  The bus will leave at 7:45 a.m.
On Friday, October 5th (note the date change) we are going to celebrate Viva Italia at the Tides in New Jersey.  How about an hour of free bar drinks?  The show will be a truly heart warming Italian-American celebration with some magnificent artists.  Mary Mancini will sing great Italian and American favorites.  Mario Tacca is considered to be one of the world’s greatest accordionists. The Comedy will be provided by the team of Bobby Alto and Buddy Mantia.  A great meal of roast beef or Chicken Cacciatore will be served.  The price for all of this is just $40.  Contact Arnold  at 869-3020 or Gert at 462-1860.  Payment deadline is September 20th  .
