VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

SPECIAL VILLAGE BOARD WORKSHOP
A special informational Workshop Meeting for new Board Members will be held by the Board of Trustees of the Village of Menands in the Municipal Building of such Village on Monday, May 14, 2007 at 7 P.M.  All meetings open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

BUILDING PERMITS REQUIRED
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction projects; pool, and roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
                
D.P.W. STARTED SUMMER HOURS
On April 30, 2007 D.P.W. has started working Summer Hours – They will be working 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 11 a.m. – noon.  This schedule will continue through Labor Day.  Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 7 a.m. on your scheduled days.

WATER METER READING AND HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS
As of Monday, April 30, 2007 the D.P.W. began reading water meters in the Village.
On Monday May 14, 2007, the Water Department will begin the yearly flushing of the water system.  Flushings will be completed approximately May 25, 2007.  All flushing of hydrants will be conducted between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.  Residents might notice discoloration in their water and should be aware this is normal and not harmful.  However, residents are cautioned to check their water before doing laundry.  Simply by letting the faucets run will clear up the discoloration after the flushing is completed each day.

BOATING SAFETY COURSE
Menands Rotary is sponsoring a Boating Safety Course on Saturday, May 12th  from 9 – 5 at Village Hall.  Fee is $30.  Pre-registration required.  Contact Peter Mason at 449-8711 or e-mail pamasoniv@hotmail.com.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE MEETING
Thursday, May 10 at 6:30 p.m. at the Village Hall.  Open to everyone!  Please come to offer help and suggestions to assist us in beautifying our Village.

SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS
Our feature business for April is Satch Sales.
The business is located at 63 Broadway and specializes in golf, transportation and utility vehicles. Satch Sales began operations in 1970 in Mechanicville and moved to Menands in 1995.  Under the direction of President Kip Walsh, Satch Sales employs twelve individuals and offers sales, service and rentals for a wide variety of customers.
While most of the company’s business is in golf cars, they also sell and lease a variety of utility and transportation vehicles to campgrounds, apartment complexes, colleges and universities, warehouses, and parks.  In addition, the company provides specially equipped work vehicles for maintenance and construction workers and homeowners.  Some vehicles have cabs and heaters and are used all year.  Among the customer base are country clubs, public golf courses, manufacturing facilities, housing authorities, colleges/universities and schools.
The company serves clients up to 150 miles from Menands and offers on site servicing of their vehicles at the customers’ place of business.  Satch Sales also provides rentals of vehicles for golf outings and special events such as weddings, parties, graduations, and other celebrations.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The seniors will be going May 30th to the MacHayden Theatre in Chatham, N.Y. to see “110 in the Shade” (The Rainmaker). After the show we will be going to Kozel’s Restaurant for dinner. Price $45. Deadline May 13. Bus leaves 12:00 p.m. Call Susan at 472-9022.  On June 18 we will be going to Lake George for a cruise on the Lac Duc Sacrament with a buffet lunch and entertainment.  On our way home we will stop in Glens Falls at the Hyde Collection Museum. The cost is $32.  Deadline for payment and reservation is May 31.  Call Susan at 472-9022.  The bus will leave at 9:15 a.m. SHARP at Bethany Church.

BETHANY PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ACTIVITIES
Rummage/Bake Sale - Saturday, May 5th  9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Bethany Presbyterian Church is holding its annual rummage sale. The REACH youth will be selling baked goods.  A light luncheon will be served.  Persons interested in donating items for the sale should call the church at 463-8217 or Paula Murphy at 465-6361 to arrange a time to drop off the donated items.
        Jr. High Teen Night – Friday, May 18th  6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
 
MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
We are celebrating The Big Read this month.  Story hours based on themes from Zora Neale Hurston’s “Their Eyes Were Watching God”.  Tuesdays at 10 a.m. until May 22.  Come join us as we have fun discovering African American Heritage.
The Menands Public Library will host an examination of  John Wayne’s films.  We will explore the myth every Tuesday until May 22 at 1 pm.
May  8 -  Rio Bravo –  the ultimate Wayne western?
May 15 – The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance – Are there any heroes?

MENANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REUNION
The sequel June 22-24, 2007

MENANDS SCH. 1ST ANNUAL BASKET BONANZA!
On May 19th  this event will be sponsored by the Menands School PTA.  Each classroom will sponsor a themed basket:  Arts and Crafts, Reading, Gardening, etc. with some great prizes from a number of local businesses.  Your ticket purchase will help to support the Drama Club plus other events funded by our PTA.  Tickets can be purchased at school or by contacting Nancy Dignum @ 432-3652 or the night of the event.  1 ticket - $.75,  10 tickets - $5.00,  25 tickets - $10.00.   For more information call 465-4561.  

MENANDS SCHOOL DRAMA CLUB
The Music Man Jr. is coming to Menands School!  Come out and join us on Saturday, May 19, 2007 at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for adults, $2 for children, and children under three are free.  Contact Tracy Albert at Menands School to purchase tickets at 465-4561 or at the main office.

MENANDS SCHOOL ANNUAL ART EXHIBIT
Menands School students have been working all year long creating masterpieces which will be on display in the Library.  The exhibit’s opening will be on Monday, May 14, 2007, at 6:30 p.m.  Please stop by to see a wide variety of artwork created by the talented children of Menands.  Any questions contact Pat Testo at 465-4561, ext. 138.

QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS
UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
A public hearing on the proposed 2007-2008 Budget for the Menands UFSD and the Menands Public Library will be held at the Menands School on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.  Budgets will be available for review on April 30, 2007 at the Menands School Central Office.
Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School.  District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 9, 2007.
The annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands UFSD will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items: to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD, to elect one Board of Education member to a 5-year term, to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library, and to elect one Library Board of Trustees member to a 5-year term.
Applications for absentee ballots are available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk. Completed Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.  Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2007.
