VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 7, 2007.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

BUILDING PERMITS REQUIRED
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction projects; pool, and roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
                
TOWN OF COLONIE LANDFILL
Town of Colonie 2007 household hazardous drop-off waste dates   are   May 2nd   ( 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. )  and   June 23rd  
( 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. )  Information available at Village Hall or call 783-2827.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1, INC.
The  May  meeting  will  be  on  May 1, 2007  at  7  p. m. The Menands Fire Company #1, Inc. will hold its Installation Dinner on April 28, 2007 at the Firehouse.  Cocktail Hour 6-7 p.m.  Dinner served at 7 p.m.  All Fire Company and Auxiliary members are welcome.  Sign-up sheets are in the Lounge at the Firehouse or contact  John Murphy at 449-2222.  Deadline April 22, 2007.

BOATING SAFETY COURSE
Menands Rotary is sponsoring a Boating Safety Course on Saturday, May 12th  from 9 – 5 at Village Hall.  Fee is $30.  Pre-registration required.  Contact Peter Mason at 449-8711 or e-mail pamasoniv@hotmail.com.

ROTARY  OF MENANDS OFFERS SCHOLARSHIP
Graduating Seniors who reside in Menands can apply for the Menands Scholarship.  Forms are available at the Village Office, Menands School, Shaker High School Guidance Office and other area high schools.  The deadline for completed applications is May 1.  For additional information please contact Ron Miller at 463-8144.

MENANDS PARKS COMMITTEE
The Menands Parks Committee meeting will be held on  May 2nd  at 7:00 p.m..  New Members welcomed by Co-Chairmans Meg Grenier and Ron Miller.  Contact Ron Miller at home/office at 463-8144 for further information.  

EARTH DAY – VILLAGE CLEAN UP DAY
Join us on Sunday, April 29th  from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.  Meet at the Ganser Smith Park.  Wear bright clothing if possible for safety and bring your work gloves.  Refreshments will follow at the park after clean-up.  Bring the family, but small children will need to be supervised.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The seniors will be going May 30th to the MacHayden Theatre to see “110 in the Shade” (The Rainmaker). After the show we will be going to Kozel’s Restaurant for dinner. Choices are: Roast Turkey, Lemon Chicken Breast or Broiled Haddock. Salad, dessert, coffee or tea is included. Price $45. Deadline May 15.  Bus leaves 12:00 p.m. SHARP.  Call Susan at 472-9022 or Gert at 462-1860.

BETHANY ACTIVITIES
Jr. High Teen Night - Friday, April 20th  6:00 –8:00 p.m.  It is a game night full of fun.  This is open to all teens who want to come.  Any questions please call the church office at  463-8217.  Upcoming Teen Night May 18th.

TAKE OUT ONLY Chicken BBQ  -   Village residents  are invited to a Chicken Barbeque Dinner from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Folensbee Hall of Bethany Presbyterian Church, 21 North Lyons Ave., Menands.  The dinner is  catered by Old Daley Inn and   includes a half chicken, corn on the cob, cole slaw, roll and brownie.  Price is $10.00 or $9.00 purchased in advance.  For group dinners, delivery is available.  This activity will benefit the youth group of Bethany Presbyterian Church and this year’s REACH work Camp mission project in Niagara Falls, NY.  For information call Bob Collen at 331-8165.

Rummage/Bake Sale - Saturday, May 5th  9 a.m. – 2 p.m.
Bethany Presbyterian Church is holding its annual rummage sale. The REACH youth will be selling baked goods.  A light luncheon will be served.  Persons interested in donating items for the sale should call the church at 463-8217 or Paula Murphy at 465-6361 to arrange a time to drop off the donated items.

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Story time will be on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.  Drop in for songs, crafts and fun.  Remember if Menands School is closed due to weather, there will be no story time.  Call 463-4035 for more information.

The Menands Public Library will host an examination of  John Wayne’s films.  We will explore the myth every Tuesday until May 22 at 1 pm.

Colonie youth center offers complimentary day passes to Village of Menands residents for April.  Residents are encouraged to spend a day at the Ciccotti Center by redeeming the coupon below to learn about the center and its benefits.

MENANDS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL REUNION
The sequel June 22-24, 2007

MENANDS SCH. 1ST ANNUAL BASKET BONANZA!
On May 19th  this event will be sponsored by the Menands School PTA.  Each classroom will sponsor a themed basket:  Arts and Crafts, Reading, Gardening, etc. with some great prizes from a number of local businesses.  Your ticket purchase will help to support the Drama Club plus other events funded by our PTA.  Tickets can be purchased at school or by contacting Nancy Dignum @ 432-3652 or the night of the event.  1 ticket - $.75,  10 tickets - $5.00,  25 tickets - $10.00.   For more information call 465-4561.  
MENANDS SCHOOL PTA SPAGHETTI DINNER
The Menands School PTA’s annual Spaghetti Dinner will be held on Wednesday, April 25 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Menands School.  Cost for adults is $6, seniors $5, children (3-13) $3, and children under 3 are free.  Take-out available.  Please come support our students and socialize with those neighbors you haven’t seen all winter.

MOVIE TICKETS
The Menands School PTA is once again selling movie tickets for $7.00.  To purchase tickets come to the Menands School and see Patti Miller or for more information call 465-4561.

QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS
UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
A public hearing on the proposed 2007-2008 Budget for the Menands UFSD and the Menands Public Library will be held at the Menands School on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 6:30 p.m.  Budgets will be available for review on April 30, 2007 at the Menands School Central Office.
Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School.  District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 9, 2007.
The annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands UFSD will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items: to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD, to elect one Board of Education member to a 5-year term, to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library, and to elect one Library Board of Trustees member to a 5-year term.
Applications for absentee ballots are available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk. Completed Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.  Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2007.
