VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 19, 2007. All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.
VILLAGE ELECTIONS
A mayor and two trustees are to be elected at the annual election this year on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the firehouse. Polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 9 p.m. on Election Day. Voter Registration for new residents is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the firehouse from 12:00 noon to 5 p.m.
YOUTH DIRECTORS POSITION OPEN
The Village will be taking applications for the Youth Directors position. If you are interested, please stop by the Village Office to pick up an employment application. All applications must be received by March 31, 2007.
FEED YOUR NEIGHBORS!
Please join Girl Scout troops 424, 061 and Girl Scouts around the nation in celebrating the 95th anniversary of the Girls Scouts by donating to our annual food drive! Boxes will be available for your NON-PERISHABLE foods in the front lobby of Menands School from Monday, March 5 - Thursday, March 15. Donations will remain in our local community, so you will be feeding your neighbors!

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1 AUXILIARY
The Menands Fire Co. #1 Auxiliary will hold a meeting at the Firehouse on March 14, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. We will be combining a “Wine and Cheese Party and a “Pound Party. Each member is asked to bring a bottle of wine or an appetizer and a wrapped item weighing one pound. The telephone committee will be contacting the members. Dues are due.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On April 17 we are planning a trip to Chez Josef to see “A Sensational Tribute to Old Blue Eyes” Frank Sinatra. The meal will be Chicken Francaise. The cost is $42. See or call Flora at 434-0916 or Pat at 436-8772 for reservations. Deadline is April 5. REMINDER: DUES ARE DUE.
BETHANY JR. HI. TEEN NIGHT
Do you have a child or grandchild in grades 5-8? Then send them on down to Bethany Presbyterian Church Friday, March 16 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for a game night full of fun. This is open to all teens who want to come. Upcoming Teen Nights: April 20 and May 18. Any questions? Please call the church office at 463-8217.
LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church is again offering soup for sale during the Lenten season. The second soup, Turkey Vegetable, will be available Friday, March 16. Pick-up will be between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. One quart of soup costs $3.75. A loaf of homemade bread will also be available at $1.75 per loaf. To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Jean Lamere at 462-9827 or fill out a coupon available at the church or drop in on March 16.
SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS
The Village Board is pleased to continue our series on the various businesses that we have in Menands. Due to the volume of notices that we had to publish in the February 23 edition of the activities, we were unable to include the “SPOTLIGHT”column. Our featured business for this edition is Plumb Engineering, P.C.
Plumb Engineering, P.C. is located at 4 Wolfert Avenue and provides full service consulting engineering services specializing in mechanical, electrical, plumbing and life safety and security building systems design to a variety of clients. The company employs thirteen individuals under the direction of Karen Astorga, President, who founded the company in 1991.
A native of Nicaragua, Karen has established offices of Plumb Engineering, P.C. in New York City and Syracuse and has started an affiliated company in her native country.
The firm’s designers offer a wealth of experience and have worked on projects from $15,000 to over $67 million. The firm’s client base is comprised of local and national architects, building developers, and several New York State agencies.
Some of the firm’s design projects include: the Trinity Building, the Troy Junior Museum, upgrading of elevators in the State Capitol, and the Terminal and Maintenance Facility at Albany International Airport.
MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB
Meeting Dates: Sunday’s at 12:00 p.m. at the Menands Fire House March 11. New members are welcome. The wrap-up meeting will be March 25. If anyone wants to march in the parade on March 17, be at the firehouse at 12:30 p.m.
Dinner Dance: Everyone is invited to a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at the Menands Firehouse on March 17 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. – Irish Dancers, Bag Pipers and a Live Band 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. Cost - $13.00 (take out $7.00). For more information contact Pat Quackenbush at 783-7205.

MENANDS JUNIOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
Play Ball!!!! It is that time of year again! Registration for the 2007 Season of the Menands Junior Baseball and Softball League is underway!! Registrations will be held SATURDAY mornings during MARCH at the Menands School Gym Lobby 9:00 a.m. to Noon. REGISTER EARLY!!! Registrations received after APRIL 1 will be subject to a $5.00 late fee. Opening Day is scheduled for April 28!!!! We need volunteers for Coaching, Field Prep, and other fun jobs!!!! MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Story time will be on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Drop in for songs, crafts and fun. Remember if Menands School is closed due to weather, there will be no story time. Call 463-4035 for more information.
The Menands Public Library will host an examination of John Wayne’s films. We will explore the myth every Tuesday until May 22 at 1 pm.

MENANDS SCHOOL – BOARD OF EDUCATION
The Menands UFSD Board of Education will hold it’s regular meeting on Monday, March 12, 2007 at 6:00 p.m. Agenda items include budget workshop at 6:00 followed by the regular meeting. The meeting is open to the public and handicap accessible.
BOY SCOUT SPAGHETTI SUPPER
Boy Scout Troop 99’s annual Spaghetti Supper will be Wednesday, March 21, 2007 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at the Menands Fire Company, 250 Broadway. Cost is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 children under 10 and FREE for children under 3. Come enjoy a traditional Italian Supper with Spaghetti or Ziti, Meatballs, Tossed Salad, Italian Bread and Beverage, or perhaps try our delicious Alfredo Sauce. QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS
UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
A public hearing on the proposed 2007-2008 Budget for the Menands UFSD and the Menands Public Library will be held at the Menands School on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at 6:30 p.m. Budgets will be available for review on April 30, 2007 at the Menands School Central Office.
Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School. District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 9, 2007.
The annual meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands UFSD will be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items: to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD, to elect one Board of Education member to a 5-year term, to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library, and to elect one Library Board of Trustees member to a 5-year term.
Nominating petitions for these positions may be obtained from Patricia M. Miller, District Clerk, at Menands School. Completed petitions are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2007.
Applications for absentee ballots are available between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk. Completed Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk no later than 5:00 p.m. on May 15, 2007.
