VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, March 5, 2007. All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

VILLAGE ELECTIONS
Two trustees and a mayor are to be elected at the annual election this year on Tuesday, March 20, 2007 at the firehouse. Polls will be open from 12:00 noon to 9 p.m. on Election Day. Voter Registration for new residents is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, 2007 at the firehouse from 12:00 noon to 5 p.m.
PAVILION RESERVATIONS WILL BEGIN 3-5-2007
All Village residents, tax paying businesses, and organizations that are based within the village, will be able to reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in or calling the Village Office beginning Monday, March 5, 2007 at 8 a.m. A $100. refundable deposit will still be required within 10 days of your reservation. Reservations for use by non-village parties sponsored by a village resident will be accepted April 2, 2007. There will be an additional usage fee of $150. In the event that a non-village party uses the pavilion and park without being identified for the actual purpose by the sponsoring resident, there will be a loss of the $100 refundable deposit plus a $300 fee will be assessed to the sponsoring resident.
MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1
The members of the Menands Fire Company would like to thank all the Village residents who supported our Rose Sale fundraiser. A thank you also to all the Village businesses who donated services or equipment to this effort. The event was a great success due to your generosity. In addition, a special thanks to all who volunteered their time and energy to work for this fundraiser.
The March meeting of the Menands Fire Co #1 will be Tuesday, March 6, 2007.
MENANDS FIRE COMPANY #1 AUXILIARY
The Menands Fire Co. #1 Auxiliary will hold a meeting at the Firehouse on March 14, 2007 at 7:00 P.M. We will be combining a “Wine and Cheese Party and a “Pound Party. Each member is asked to bring a bottle of wine or an appetizer and a wrapped item weighing one pound. The telephone committee will be contacting the members. Dues are due.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On Thursday, March 15, we will go to the Log Cabin for the “Highland Rovers Band”. In addition to the Irish entertainment there will be a Corned Beef dinner. Cost is $41. To go you must see or call Pat at 436-8772 or Gert at 462-1860. We leave at 9:00 a.m. Deadline is March 1. REMINDER: DUES ARE DUE. Dues must be paid before a member signs up for any of the trips.
BETHANY JR. HI. TEEN NIGHT
Do you have a child or grandchild in grades 5-8? Then send them on down to Bethany Presbyterian Church Friday, March 16 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. for a game night full of fun. This is open to all teens who want to come. Upcoming Teen Nights: April 20 and May 18. Any questions? Please call the church office at 463-8217.
LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church Lenten Soup Sale begins with the first soup, Genoa Minestrone (vegetable) available Friday, March 2. Pick-up will be between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. One quart of soup costs $3.75. A loaf of homemade bread will also be available at $1.75 per loaf. To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Jean Lamere at 462-9827 or fill out a coupon available at the church. You may also just drop in on March 2.
LASAGNA DINNER AT BETHANY CHURCH
Village residents are invited to a Lasagna Dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2007 at Folensbee Hall of Bethany Presbyterian Church, 21 North Lyons Ave., Menands. This activity will involve the youth group of Bethany Presbyterian Church and donations will be accepted for this year’s REACH Work Camp Mission Project in Niagara Falls, NY. THANK YOU
On behalf of the girls and their Dads/father figures, a big thank you is in order for those businesses in our community who donated items for use in the Tenth Annual Father Daughter Dance on Saturday, February 3. Special thanks should go to Reverend Meachem and the Bethany Presbyterian Church for use of their building, as well as to Morgan Linen, Party Warehouse, JH Kenney Florist and Price Chopper for their generous support. These members of our community helped to build a special (and well decorated) evening of bonding, fun and memories for Dads/father figures and Daughters alike.
MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB
The Menands St. Patrick’s Club would like to thank everyone who came and supported our “Sweetheart Breakfast”. Many thanks to all the merchants who donated items and to all our club members who worked so hard to make this endeavor a success.
Congratulations! This year’s Menands Colleen is Shelby Archambault, daughter of David and Joy Archambault of Glenwood Road. Shelby graduated from Shaker High and is currently a freshman at HVCC.
Meeting Dates: Sunday’s at 12:00 p.m. at the Menands Fire House March 4 and March 11. New members are welcome. The wrap-up meeting will be March 25.
Pom Pom Girls:Any Menands girls (grade 5 and up) who wish to participate as Pom Pom girls in the Albany St. Patrick’s Parade on March 17, are asked to sign up at Menands School or call Heidi Quackenbush at 783-7205. If there are grade 3 and 4 girls interested, a parent or guardian must accompany them in the parade. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

ST. PATRICK’S CLUB DINNER DANCE

MENANDS JUNIOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
Play Ball!!!! It is that time of year again! Registration for the 2007 Season of the Menands Junior Baseball and Softball League is underway!! Registrations will be held SATURDAY mornings during FEBRUARY and MARCH at the Menands School Gym Lobby 9:00 a.m. to Noon. REGISTER EARLY!!! Registrations received after APRIL 1 will be subject to a $5.00 late fee. Opening Day is scheduled for April 28!!!! We need volunteers for Coaching, Field Prep, and other fun jobs!!!! MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Story time will be on Tuesdays at 10 a.m. Drop in for songs, crafts and fun. Remember if Menands School is closed due to weather, there will be no story time. Call 463-4035 for more information.
The Menands Public Library will host an examination of John Wayne’s films. We will explore the myth every Tuesday until May 22 at 1 pm.

ROTARY CLUB OF MENANDS
The Rotary Club of Menands is having a Chicken BBQ from Giffey’s on Thursday, March 8 from 4-6:30 p.m. at the Menands Fire Hall, Broadway (Rte. 32), Menands. Eat in or take out. Cost is only $8.95. Includes ½ chicken, macaroni salad, cole slaw, rolls and butter, home made desserts and a beverage. For advance tickets contact Ron Miller at 463-8144 or Mel Horowitz at 449-8817.
The Rotary Club of Menands wants to give you an opportunity to save on your auto insurance! Have you taken the Defensive Driving Course? We offer you a chance to do this on one day: Saturday, March 10 from 9 AM - 5 PM at the Village Court Room, easy to reach off Route 787. Those completing this course earn a NYS Defensive Driving Certificate. Advanced registrations only, no walk-ins. Register early as there is a limit for the number of students attending. The cost is only $29. To register please mail two checks ($10. to AARP and $19. to Menands Rotary) and send both to Peter Mason, 576 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.
