VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 20, 2007.   All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULES
The Village Office, Village Court and D.P.W. will be closed on Monday, February 19 for Presidents’ Day.  Monday’s trash pick up will be Tuesday, February 20 and Tuesday’s pick up will be on Wednesday, February 21.    Recycling days will remain the same.  There will be NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 21.

PAVILION RESERVATIONS WILL BEGIN   3-5-2007
All Village residents, tax paying businesses, and organizations that are based within the village, will be able to reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in or calling the Village Office beginning Monday, March 5, 2007 at 8 a.m.   A $100. refundable deposit will still be required within 10 days of your reservation.  Reservations for use by non-village parties sponsored by a village resident will be accepted April 2, 2007.  There will be an additional usage fee of $150.  In the event that a non-village party uses the pavilion and park without being identified for the actual purpose by the sponsoring resident, there will be a loss of the $100. refundable deposit plus a $300. fee will be assessed to the sponsoring resident.  

ATTENTION RESIDENTS
Phone Books & Magazines should be placed in regular trash.  These items should not be in with your recycling.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
There will be a Beautification Committee meeting on Thursday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m. in the Village Office.  The Agenda will be to cover upcoming budget planning ideas and suggestions for the coming year and discussions of possible fundraisers.  Open to anyone who would like to help or just offer suggestions.  Any questions call Lynda Long 436-1300.  If you cannot attend but would like to add your comments or suggestions, you can e-mail me at LynTeriorsDec@aol.com.
VALENTINE’S DAY FUNDRAISER
The Menands Fire Company will be having a fundraiser on February 12, 13 and 14 for Valentine’s Day.  We will be selling roses at 242 Broadway (former Roxy Cleaners just south of the Firehouse).  The roses will be selling for $25. (plus tax) for 2 dozen pastels and $25. (plus tax) for 1 dozen red.  Come to our sale to support the Fire Company and get quality roses for a great price.  

ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH
A used book fair will be held at St. Joan of Arc Church at 78 Menands Road on February 11 from 9   –  11:30 a.m.         Books will range from $1.00  to  $3.00.

CAT FOUND
A cat was found the end of November 2006 around the Park Drive Area.  For more details and a description of the cat, please call 463-8572.

SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS--UPDATE
The owners of the Corner Well would like all Menands residents to know that although there has been a recent change in management, the restaurant is very much open for business and is not closing. The Corner Well is open Monday through Saturday for lunch and dinner and will be featuring traditional pub fare items, daily specials, and pizza.  Take out is available as well as free delivery in the Menands area. Hadi and the staff look forward to welcoming you to the Corner Well.

BETHANY JR. HI. TEEN FUN NIGHT
Pre-teens – If you’re in grades 5-8, come to Bethany Presbyterian Church at 21 North Lyon Ave. for a night of fun (board games, ping pong, fooseball, crafts and snacks) on Friday, February 16 from 6 – 8 p.m.

Bethany Lenten Soup Sale begins Friday, March 2.  Details in next activities or call Judith Blair @ 465-3295.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The monthly business meeting of the Menands Senior Citizen Club will be Thursday, February 22. Mary Brizzell, Colonie Town Supervisor, will be our guest speaker at 10:45 a.m.  Also a REMINDER: DUES ARE DUE.  Dues must be paid before a member signs up for any of the trips.
                           
ST. PAT’S “SWEETHEART” BREAKFAST
Join the Menands St. Patrick’s Club for an all you can eat breakfast!  Sunday, February 11 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Menands Firehouse.  Bring your sweetheart!  Eggs, pancakes, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, home fries, Irish soda bread, Danish, pastries, doughnuts, coffee, tea and juices are being offered.   Adults  -  $6.  Child  -  $3.  The meeting of the club will follow the breakfast.

MISS COLLEEN CONTEST
Any Village girl, grade 9 or older, may enter with their parent’s permission.  Drawing will be held at the meeting on February 11.   Miss Colleen and her court will represent Menands in the Albany Parade on March 17 and host the dinner dance held at the firehouse that evening.  Please fill out the entry form below and mail (or drop it off to):  Menands St. Patrick’s Club, 250 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.  Entries must be received by February 10.

POM POM GIRLS
Any Menands girls (grade 5 and up) who wish to participate as  Pom Pom girls  in the Albany St. Patrick’s Parade on March 17, are asked to sign up at Menands School or call Heidi Quackenbush at 783-7205.  If there are grade 3 and 4 girls interested, a parent or guardian must accompany them in the parade.
                                            
REQUEST FOR TRANSPORTATION - MENANDS
Residents must submit written requests for transportation to private or parochial schools for the 2007-2008 school year to Menands School by April 1, 2007.  If a child’s placement or acceptance at a particular school has not been finalized, return a completed request form in anticipation of attendance.  New residents must submit a written request immediately after establishing residence in the district.  Forms are available at Menands School.

MENANDS JUNIOR BASEBALL AND SOFTBALL
Play Ball!!!!  It is that time of year again!  Registration for the 2007 Season of the Menands Junior Baseball and Softball League is underway!!  Registrations will be held SATURDAY mornings during FEBRUARY and MARCH at the Menands School Gym Lobby 9:00 a.m. to Noon.  REGISTER EARLY!!!  Registrations received after APRIL 1 will be subject to a $5.00 late fee.  Opening Day is scheduled for April 28!!!!  We need volunteers for Coaching, Field Prep, and other fun jobs!!!!   Please contact Paul DeDominicis @426-1202 or Chuck Price @361-1300.         

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Story time will be on Tuesdays at 10 a.m.  Drop in for songs, crafts and fun.  Remember if Menands School is closed due to weather, there will be no story time.  Call 463-4035 for more information.

Though John Wayne died over thirty years ago, he still holds a special place in American culture.  The Menands Public Library will host an examination of fifteen of John Wayne’s films.  We will explore the myth every Tuesday from February 13 to May 22 at 1 pm.

For the month of February, the following films are:

                February 27  -  THE FLYING TIGERS  -  a myth is born; a hero is born

ROTARY CLUB OF MENANDS
The Rotary Club of Menands wants to give you an opportunity to save on your auto insurance!  Have you taken the Defensive Driving Course?  We offer you a chance to do this on one day:  Saturday, March 10 from 9 AM  -  5 PM at the Village Court Room, easy to reach off Route 787.  Those completing this course earn a NYS Defensive Driving Certificate.  Advanced registrations only, no walk-ins.  As the number of students in this course is limited, we urge you to register early.  The cost is only $29.  To register please mail two checks ($10. to AARP and $19. to Menands Rotary) and send both to Peter Mason, 576 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.  An optional light lunch, provided by the Boy Scouts, is available for an additional $5.  Any questions contact Peter Mason at 449-8711.
