VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 because of the holiday on Monday. All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULES
The Village Office, Village Court and D.P.W. will be closed on Monday, January 15th for Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday’s trash pick up will be Tuesday, January 17th and Tuesday’s pick up will be on Wednesday, December 18th . Recycling days will remain the same. There will be NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 18TH .
NOTICE OF PUBLIC MEETING
There will be a public meeting on Tuesday, January 23 at 7 PM in the Village Hall, Village of Menands to review the Final Draft of the consultant’s study of Community Design Standards, Village Gateways, and a proposed design for an extension of the existing bikeway/walkway Trail from Schuyler Flatts Park (Town of Colonie) into the Village.
The meeting will be conducted by the Advisory Committee for this project and will include presentations by Village consultants ELAN Planning and Design (CDS/Village Gateways) as well as Boswell Engineering (Bikeway/Walkway Trail).
Public discussion is invited and encouraged, as it is the intention of the Village Board to get as much public input as possible so that we have a final product that will be exemplary for the Village.
ATTENTION RESIDENTS
The DPW asks that you help keep the storm water catch basins near your home free of leaves and debris during the year to prevent back-ups.
TRASH/RECYCLING/COMPOST PROGRAMS
Trash and Recyclables should be placed curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pick up. Trash barrels should NOT exceed 40 lbs. Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged or placed directly in a barrel (not to exceed 40 lbs.). .
ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
No meetings are scheduled in January and February.
Tuesday, March 6th Herbs presented by Megan Brown.
Tuesday, April 3rd Starting annuals from seed presented by Cornell Cooperative Extension.
Tuesday, May 1st Plan garden tours or how to make and plant a moss-lined hanging basket. Meetings are held at 7:00 P.M. at Weare C. Little Memorial Park at the corner of Van Rensselaer Blvd. and Route 378, Loudonville, N.Y.

BUILDING DEPT. FEES HAVE INCREASED
The Village Board recently adopted an updated New York State Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code in accordance with the requirements of the Secretary of State. The Village has enforced that State Code since 1984, with the most recent update occurring in 2003.
The updated Code significantly expands the responsibilities of the Village with respect to administration, compliance, record keeping and reporting requirements. In conjunction with this action, the Village Board has updated the various fees that are charged by the Building Department for the issuance of various permits as listed below.
RESIDENTIAL BLDG. PERMIT FEE SCHEDULE
New one or two family dwelling (including garages)
Up to 1,500 square feet- $175. 1,500 s.f. to 3,000 s.f.-$250.
More than 3,000 s. f.- $400.
Additions, alterations, conversions, demolitions, etc.
Cost of construction $1,000. or less $50.
For each additional $1,000. or fraction thereof $5.
Sheds and Pools.
Sheds and Gazebos $25.
Swimming Pools (above ground) $30.
Swimming Pools (in ground) $100.
COMMERCIAL BLDG. PERMIT FEE SCHEDULE

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens are planning to go to Proctor’s Theatre on Sunday, February 18th to see the play CAMOLOT . After the show dinner will be optional. Please contact Susan Arkinson at 472-9022 for more details. Don’t forget – our weekly meetings are held every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bethany Hall. Drop in and see us – we’re sure you will enjoy it. Dues will be collected during January - $5.00. REMINDER - If Menands School
is closed because of inclement weather, the Senior meeting will be cancelled.
MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY

ROTARY CLUB OF MENANDS
The Rotary Club of Menands wants to give you an opportunity to save on your auto insurance! Have you taken the Defensive Driving course? Are you due for a renewal (required every three years)? We offer you a chance to do this on one day: Saturday, March 10 from 9 AM – 5 PM at the Village Court Room, easy to reach off Route 787. Those completing this course earn a NYS Defensive Driving Certificate. Advanced registrations only, no walk ins. As the number of students in this course is limited, we urge you to register early. The cost is only $29. To register please mail two checks ($10. to AARP and $19. to Menands Rotary) and send to Peter Mason, 576 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204. An optional light lunch, provided by the Boy Scouts, is

MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB
Congratulations to John Stangle, Jr. elected to be the Grand Marshal of the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade . The next meeting of the club will be held Sunday, January 14th at 12 PM at the Menands Fire House.
2007 FATHER-DAUGHTER
VALENTINE’S DANCE
The 10th Annual Father-Daughter Valentine’s Dance will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2007 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church. This is an opportunity for fathers and ‘father figures’ to have a special and memorable evening of fun and dancing with their daughters. Daughters of any age are welcome. Professional DJ and Magic 100.9 FM radio personality, Brian Michaels, will provide the music and a professional photographer will be on hand to provide free father-daughter portraits. Admission is $15. per father in advance or $20. at the door. Space is limited to 150 people. If you register and pay by January 27th , you’ll be entered into a drawing for Dinner for Two at The Century House for you and your daughter.
