VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 4, 2006.  All meetings are open to the public and are handicapped accessible.

BROADWAY AND WARDS LANE
Be advised the yield sign to make a right hand turn onto Wards Lane from Broadway South-bound has been removed; you are now required to come to a stop before turning right on a red signal.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS
The DPW asks that you help keep the storm water catch basins near your home free of leaves and debris during the year to prevent back-ups.

LEAF VACUUM
The Village DPW will be vacuuming leaves  until December 4th weather permitting.  LEAVES ONLY must be raked to the side of the road for pick up.  Biodegradable Bags for leaves and grass clippings will continue to be collected.   

TRASH/RECYCLING/COMPOST PROGRAMS
Trash and Recyclables should be placed curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pick up.  Trash barrels should NOT exceed 40 lbs. Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged or placed directly in a barrel (not to exceed 40 lbs.). .

ROBIN HOOD PERFORMANCE
MENANDS SCHOOL
Join Robin Hood and his Merry Band, Maid Marion, Marion’s maid, the Sheriff of Nottingham and a host of other characters in a musical wonderland this Saturday, December 2nd , at 2:00 p.m. when more than 50 Menands School students and Missoula Children’s Theatre present an original musical adaptation of Robin Hood.  Tickets are available at the door.
    
MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB
The first meeting of the Menands St. Patrick’s Club will be held at the Menands Fire House on Sunday, December 3, 2006 at 12:00 P.M.   New members welcome!

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY NEWS
The December meeting will be Tuesday, December 5th .

VILLAGE YOUTH CHRISTMAS PARTY
The Village Youth Christmas Party will be held on Friday, December 15th at the Menands Firehouse from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.  Volunteers are needed, so please call Heather at 432-8521.

SANTA’S COMING
Santa and the Menands Fire Company will be traveling the streets of Menands on Saturday, December 23rd starting at 10 a.m. in the South End.  Listen for the Christmas Music and Sirens.   MERRY CHRISTMAS from the Menands Fire Company.

SPOTLIGHT ON MENANDS BUSINESS
The Village Board is introducing a new feature for the Menands Activities that will focus on our business community by highlighting a different business each month.  With over 150 businesses in the Village, from international companies to sole proprietorships, Menands has a business community to be proud of and we want to provide due recognition for our business neighbors.  Our feature business this month is Audio-Video Corporation.

Audio-Video Corporation was founded in Albany, New York in 1946.  The company moved to Menands in 1982 and today employs about 50 people in Menands and maintains an office in Syracuse.  The company, located at 213  Broadway, is privately owned and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.

The company sells professional audio-visual equipment to a diverse variety of clients including the Buffalo Sabres of the National Hockey League, General Electric, Holiday Inn Turf, as well as many governmental and educational customers.  Audio-Video Corporation is a leader in audiovisual and broadcast integrated systems and related services.  The company’s services include consultation, design engineering, system installation, training, documentation, and after sale support.
Audio-Video Corporation is proud of its heritage and is determined to maintain the outstanding reputation it has achieved over the years.

ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
The program for 2006 Albany Garden Club has been set as follows: Tuesday, December 5 – (This meeting will start at 6:30 p.m.).  Make arrangements for the nursing homes.  COOKIE EXCHANGE !!! – please bring in 2 dozen cookies.  Meetings are held at 7:00 p.m. at Weare C. Little Memorial Park at the corner of Van Rensselaer Blvd. and Route 378, Loudonville, N.Y.  No meetings are scheduled in January and February.

MENANDS FIRE COMPANY AUXILIARY
Meeting and “Christmas Dessert Party” of the Menands Fire Company Auxiliary will be held at the Menands Firehouse on December 13th at 7 p.m.  Each member is asked to bring the following:  your favorite Christmas      dessert, $5 Grab Bag Gift and 6 Christmas Cards signed with your name and the Menands Fire Company Auxiliary.  DO NOT SEAL.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The annual Christmas Party for Menands Seniors and guests will be held on Sunday, December 10, 2006 at 4:00 p.m. at the Watervliet Elks.  The menu choices are Roast Beef,  Chicken or Fish.  Cost - $20.00.  For additional information and reservations, please call  Pat Grant at 436-8772.

2006 MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Menands Library – Fall Film Series Presents:
Every Tuesday this fall at 1:00 p.m., the library will show a Film starring Miss Bette Davis.  Movies are:

                December 12th  -  What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?
                December 19th  -  Hush, Hush Sweet Charlotte         
Fall into storytime:  Our drop in story hour for children is Mondays at 10 a.m.  Stop by for stories, songs and crafts.  For more information call the library at 463-4035.

MENANDS LIBRARY POCKET CALENDARS
The 2007 Menands Public Library pocket calendars are now available.  Supplies are limited.  Please, only one calendar per card holder.

NEW NOVEL ABOUT MENANDS’ RESIDENT’S WAR EXPERIENCES
The novel DIVIDED LOYALITES by Richard E. Witten is based on the World War II experiences of the late Harry R. Hayes.  Mr. Hayes, a long time resident of Menands, helped liberate a Nazi labor camp during the war.  The Menands Public Library has copies you can borrow of this very griping novel.

INCLEMENT WEATHER AND SCHOOL CLOSINGS
When there is inclement weather, residents should tune to WGY, WROW or WTRY radio as well as TV channels 6, 10 and 13 for school closings or late openings.  When school is canceled during the day, after school and night activities at the school are also canceled.  If  you have changed home/work phone numbers or emergency contacts, please contact the Menands School (465-4561).  If the Menands School is closed due to weather, transportation to high schools and private schools will be at the discretion of the Menands UFSD Superintendent of Schools.  If the Menands School is opening late due to the weather, all bus runs will be delayed in Menands.  For example, if the Menands School is opening one hour late, then all buses transporting students outside the district will also be running one hour late.

2007 FATHER-DAUGHTER VALENTINE’S DANCE
Back by popular demand, the 10th Annual Father-Daughter Valentine’s Dance will be held on
Saturday, February 3, 2007 from 6 – 9 p.m. at Bethany Presbyterian Church.  This is an opportunity for fathers and ‘father figures’ to have a special and memorable evening of fun and dancing with their daughters.  Professional DJ and Magic 100.9 FM radio personality, Brian Michaels, will provide the music.  Preparations are underway and volunteers are needed (errands, set-up, publicity, replenish refreshments, etc.).  If you are interested in helping, please contact Steve or Lisa Brickman at 463-2606.
