VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 6, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
LEAF VACUUM
The Village DPW will begin vacuuming leaves during the
week of October 23rd and continue until December 4th weather permitting. LEAVES ONLY must be raked to the side of the road for pick up. Biodegradable Bags for leaves and grass clippings will continue to be collected.
NOVEMBER TRASH SCHEDULE
Election Day Nov. 7th will be a regular Trash Collection Day.
Due to the observance of Veteran’s Day Nov. 10th, recycling pick up will be changed as follows: Thursday’s pick up will be Wednesday and Friday’s pick up will be Thursday. There will be NO special pick up on Wednesday, November 8th .
There will be only three (3) Special Trash Pick Up Days in November, as follows: November 1st , 15th and 29th . Please plan accordingly.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE
The Village Office will be closed in observance of the following Holidays: Tuesday, November 7th – Election Day, Friday, November 10th – Veteran’s Day, Thursday, November 23rd – Thanksgiving Day
TRASH/CYCLING/COMPOST PROGRAMS
Trash and Recyclables should be placed curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pick up. Trash barrels should NOT exceed 40 lbs. Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged or placed directly in a barrel (not to exceed 40 lbs.).
MENANDS FIRE CO. #1.
The Firehouse is raffling off an 8 HP Toro Snow Thrower, which can be seen at Menands True Value Hardware. Tickets are $5.00 each or 4 tickets for $15.00. Tickets are available at Menands True Value or thru any Menands Firefighter. The drawing will be at the annual Halloween Party at Ganser-Smith Park. Thank you for your support!
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On October 26th , Peter Lattanzio, Chief Fire Inspector/Investigator of the Town of Colonie will be our guest speaker at 10:45 A.M. The Menands Seniors will be going to Blackhead Mountain Resort in Round Top, N.Y. on Wednesday, November 8th. The price is $36.00. For reservations, please call Susan at 472-9022 or Arnold at 869-3020. Reservation, payment and meal choice deadline is October 30th.
APPLICATIONS BEING ACCEPTED
Applications are being accepted for a part-time person to work in the Village Court. Must be computer literate and available for some evenings. Applications will be accepted until November 1st .
JR. HIGH TEEN NIGHT
Do you have a child or grandchild entering grades 5-8? Then send them down to Bethany Presbyterian Church Friday, October 29th from 6-8 p.m. for a game night full of fun. This is open to all teens who want to come. Any questions? Please call Pastor Shannon at the church office at 463-8217.

2006 MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Menands Library – Fall Film Series Presents:

MENANDS YOUTH BASKETBALL
Registration for the Menands Youth Basketball Program will be held on Tuesday, October 24th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Menands School – gym entrance. Village of Menands Boys and Girls in Grades 3 thru 8 are invited to participate. Coaches and assistants are needed. Training is available. MENANDS YOUTH ORGANIZATION
The Youth Organization is hosting a Halloween Party on Tuesday, October 31st from 6-8 P.M. with a parade starting from the firehouse and finishing at the park where there will be refreshments, horse and carriage rides and other goodies. Be there 5:45 sharp for all the fun to begin! Hope to see you there…..
THINKING RED IN MENANDS
Menands School is celebrating Red Ribbon Week from October 23-31. This is a nationally-celebrated week devoted to promoting awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Students will be participating in various themes and lessons on how to stay healthy and drug-free. We are asking community members to show their support for a drug-free Menands by putting a red ribbon outside of their businesses/homes throughout the week of October 23-31. The school and village hall have ribbons available free of charge. Together we can provide a united force in our pledge to have a community, which is safe and drug-free!
ST. JOAN OF ARC CHURCH
You are invited to join the St. Joan of Arc Community Celebration of 25 years in their present church building on December 10, 2006. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. followed by a brunch at the Schuyler Inn on Broadway. Spread the news. Mark your calendars. Come and join us! Reservations begin in November. CHRISTMAS BAZAAR
For that unique hand-crafted gift, luscious baked item, jams, jellies, pickles, salads or yummy soup, come to Bethany Presbyterian Church’s Christmas Bazaar on Saturday, November 18 from 9 - 3 p.m. at the corner of Menand Road and Lyons Avenue. We’ll have hand-made knits, jewelry, Christmas items, gifts for dogs, and second-hand items at our white elephant sale. Start your morning with a cup of coffee and goodie served from 9 - 11 a.m. followed by lunch served until 1 p.m. Hope to see you there.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
The Beautification Committee is asking for everyones help in planting our Fall bulbs that we have received for free from the city of Albany. We will be meeting on Saturday, November 4th at 11:00 a.m. in front of the Menands Hardware Store on the grass strip area where we will be planting hundreds of bulbs. Rain date will be Sunday, the 5th same time. Bring your gloves and planting instruments and join in. Please call 436-1300 and let us know if we can count on your help!!!

ELECTION DAY BAKE SALE
The Menands Fire Company Auxiliary will hold their annual “Election Day Bake Sale” starting at 9:00 a.m. at the firehouse on Tuesday, November 7th. All auxiliary members are asked to bring their baked goods to the firehouse early Tuesday morning. All donations will be greatly accepted.

GOLF TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to Ray Smith Sr., Ray Smith Jr., Kevin Smith and Mike Murphy as this year’s champions. This year’s tournament proudly donated $5,700. to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. CONGRATULATIONS!
Joe Condon was the recipient of the “Excellence in Broadcasting” award at NYS Broadcasters Assoc., Inc. Executive Conference held in Lake George, New York. This award was given to Joe for “Albany Street”, which he writes, produces and hosts. This show airs on Sunday mornings on WROW-AM Albany, WYJB-FM Albany, and WIZR-AM in the Amsterdam, Johnstown, Gloversville, New York market. Joe and his wife Kathleen reside in the Village of Menands.
