VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday,
October 2, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
D.P.W. HOURS
On Monday, October 2, 2006, the D.P.W. hours will be 8 a.m. – 4 p.m., Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 8 a.m. on your scheduled days.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE CHANGES
Due to the observance of Columbus Day, the Village Office will be closed on Monday, October 9th and there will be no trash pick up. Monday’s trash pick up will be Tuesday, October 10th and Tuesday’s pick up will be Wednesday, October 12th. THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY.
MENANDS FIRE CO. #1 RAFFLE
An 8 HP TORO Snow Thrower, which can be seen at Menands True Value Hardware, is being raffled off. Tickets are $5.00 each or 4 tickets for $15.00. Tickets are available at Menands True Value or thru any Menands Firefighter. The drawing will be at the annual Halloween Party at Ganser-Smith Park. Thank you for your support!
MOVIE NIGHT IN GANSER-SMITH PARK
The Menands Police Dept. is sponsoring a double feature movie night on Friday, September 29th. Show Times are 6:30 P.M. with LADY & THE TRAMP II and 8:30 P.M. Movie to be determined. Pizza, Popcorn & Drinks will be provided by the Menands Police Dept.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
On October 4th, 2006, the Menands Senior Citizens Club will be going to the Holiday Inn Dinner Theater in Lake George to see “Power Play”. The bus leaves at 9:45 a.m. Please arrive 30 minutes earlier. Please contact Pat Grant at 436-8772 for reservations. The Club is also sponsoring a trip to Blackhead Mountain Lodge at Round Top, N.Y. for a taste of Germany and a guided tour of the Catskill Mountains area on Wednesday, November 8. The cost will be $36.00. Bus will leave at 9:00 a.m. Reservations will begin September 28. Deadline for payment and reservations will be October 25. Call Susan at 472-9022 or Arnold at 869-3020.
JR. HIGH TEEN NIGHT
Do you have a child or grandchild entering grades 5-8? Then send them down to Bethany Presbyterian Church on Friday, September 22nd from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. for a game night full of fun. This is open to all teens who want to come. Any questions? Please call the office at 463-8217.
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273
(Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.). The drop off event will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on
Oct. 4th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal. A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.
MENANDS ROTARY
The Rotary Club of Menands would like to thank all the members of our community who braved the rain and helped to make our Chicken BBQ a success. We especially want to thank Menands Activities for including our announcements, the members of the Parks and Beautification Committee for enhancing the event with their bake sale and the support of Albany Steel, Menands Senior Citizens, Albany International, WNYT and the North Albany YMCA.

ALBANY RURAL CEMETERY
The Albany Rural Cemetery (Colonie) will be hosting their 2nd Annual Civil War Day on Saturday, September 23rd from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Many events are planned including horse drawn tours of the cemetery, re-enactments, the firing of an actual civil war cannon and President Lincoln will be there too! Food vendors and rest room facilities on site. This is a great time for kids and adults to enjoy some of our local history relating to the Civil War era.

GARAGE SALE
Parks & Beautification Committees are planning a Fall Fund Raiser Garage Sale on Saturday, September 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For a nominal fee of $15.00, it will include a map of all participants and also advertising. Funds raised will be applied towards Parks and Beautification improvements in the Village. Covered space located at Menands Market for anyone who does not have a garage or lawn is available. Participants must provide their own tables. Maps of participants will be available in front of Village Office on Broadway in Menands on the morning of the sale. If you would like information on what to do with any unwanted left over items after your garage sale, contact Tarasha Darden-McKoy for further information at 466-5110. HELP! COMMUNITY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS
We are very excited by the response we have received to the services we are offering. We appreciate the efforts of the persons who are volunteering their assistance to transport and visit friends and neighbors. The requests are becoming so numerous that we desperately need more help so we don’t wear out the folks who are currently volunteering. CUB SCOUT – BOY SCOUT OPEN HOUSE
Tuesday, October 3rd at 7 p.m. in the Menands School Cafeteria there will be the Recruitment & Information night for Cub Scouts (boys in grades 1st through 5th ) and Boy Scouts (grades 6 & up). Scouting provides fun and exciting new things to do through a variety of challenging activities that help build fitness, character and good citizenship traits. MENANDS YOUTH BASKETBALL
Registration for the Menands Youth Basketball Program will be held on Thursday, October 19th and Tuesday, October 24th from 6:00 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Menands School – gym entrance. Village of Menands Boys and Girls in Grades 3 thru 8 are invited to participate. Coaches and assistants are needed – training is available. ST. JOAN OF ARC
St. Joan of Arc will offer Faith Formation classes every Sunday beginning October 15th, 2006. For registration forms and further information, please call Kirsten Suberg at St. Joan of Arc @ 463-0378.
MENANDS SCHOOL
Due to changes in the Homestead and non-Homestead percentages supplied by the Town of Colonie, the Tax rates have increased for the Menands School. Homestead has increased by 9.34% and non-Homestead by 3.95%. The effect on a residence assessed at $100,000. is an increase of approximately $168.00.

Entertainment Books are once again being offered as one of our fundraisers. The cost of the book remains only $30. Monday, October 23, 2006. The Menands School is beginning their search for a new Superintendent and would appreciate the Communities involvement. There will be several opportunities during the day and evening on 10-23 for the community to get involved. PIANO ACCOMPANIST NEEDED
Menands School is looking for a piano accompanist to work with our K-8 students during the week of November 27th.
We are once again sponsoring the Missoula Children’s Theatre Residency Week and the students will be performing Robin Hood. The hours of rehearsal when the accompanist would be needed are Wednesday 11/29 thru Friday 12/1 from 3:15 p.m. until 7:45 p.m., with dress rehearsal and performance on Saturday 12/2 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The Missoula Children’s Theatre is a wonderful program we have hosted for several years; a program designed to develop lifeskills in our children through participation in the performing arts.
