VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday,
September 18, 2006.  All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.

                A SPECIAL THANK-YOU     
On behalf of the Village Board, we would like to thank all those who participated in this year’s Village picnic, especially the Menands Police Dept, Menands Fire Dept., Boy Scout Troop #99, Rotary Club, Menands St. Patrick’s Club, Bethany Presbyterian Church, St. Joan of Arc Church, Menands Public Library, Youth Committee, Colonie EMS, Menands Sr. Citizens and all the Village residents for supporting this community event.
        
        RESOLUTION EXPRESSING GRATITUDE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE PEOPLE OF THE VILLAGE OF MENANDS TO ANN K. BACHER AND HONORING HER UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT AS EDITOR OF THE MENANDS ACTIVITIES.

        WHEREAS, Ann K. Bacher began her employment with the Village of Menands on July 28, 1978.

        WHEREAS, having served the citizens of the Village faithfully and well for over twenty five years, Ann has commenced her well deserved retirement from these labors on May 17, 2006. and

        WHEREAS, Ann K. Bacher has been, and is, held in high esteem and affection by the members of this Board, and by the residents of this Village who have known her and benefited by her continuing friendship and contributions to the community, and

        NOW, THEREFORE, be it

        RESOLVED, that we, the members of this Board, personally and on behalf of the citizens of this Village extend our most sincere thanks and grateful appreciation to our friend, Ann K. Bacher, for her personal commitment to the residents of the Village as Editor of the Menands Activities for over twenty five years we do, further, unreservedly extend to her our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for a long, fulfilling and happy and healthy life in retirement, and be it further   

        RESOLVED, that the Clerk-Treasurer be, and he hereby is, directed to cause this resolution to be published in the Menands Activities and to transmit a certified copy hereof to Ann K. Bacher, and be it further

        RESOLVED, that when this meeting adjourns, it do so in appreciation of the many services so generously rendered to this Village by Ann K. Bacher.

                        NOTICE
Construction has started on North Lyons Avenue and Menand Road.    Please proceed with caution when traveling in this area.  Residents in the area may experience temporary disruption to water service as we repair/replace water valves in the area.

NEWS FROM THE TOWN OF COLONIE
The Town of Colonie will recognize the fifth anniversary of 9-11-01, with a remembrance ceremony on Monday, September 11th at approximately 8:15 a.m. at Memorial Town Hall, located at 534 Loudon Road in Newtonville.

VILLAGE OF MENANDS 9/11 CEREMONY
On Monday, September 11, on the following times: 8:46, 9:03, 9:45 and 10:10 the Fire Department Roof Siren will be activated for 30 seconds each time in remembrance of that tragic day.
  
 MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Club is planning a “Mystery” trip on  Friday, September 22, 2006. Cost-$40.00. For reservations, please call Arnold at 869-3020.  The bus leaves at 8:30 a.m.  Please be there 30 minutes ahead of time.  Also on October 4th, 2006 the Club will be going to the Holiday Inn Dinner Theater in Lake George to see “Power Play”.  There is a waiting list.  If you wish to add your name, please contact Pat Grant at 436-8772.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.).  The drop off event will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on  Oct. 4th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only.  Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal.  A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.

MENANDS ROTARY
The Menands Rotary Club is sponsoring its Fall Chicken Barbecue (prepared by Giffy’s Bar – B – Q ) on Thursday September 14th
4 to 7 p.m. at Ganser Smith Park – Eat in or Take Out – Only $8.95 for a full dinner of Chicken, baked potato, cole slaw, drink, roll & butter, and a cookie.  To be sure there is a meal ready for you we suggest that you obtain advance tickets by sending a check (payable to Rotary Club of Menands) to Ron Miller, 7 Sage Hill Lane, Menands NY 12204 – For information please contact Ron at 463-8144.  Your support is appreciated.

Menands School PTA is accepting orders for beautiful florist size MUM Plants.  Available in yellow, white, burgundy, purple, pink and orange (rust) - $6.00 each.  Please pre-order by calling Catherine Mattice at 463-8759 or Kerry Franklin at 462-3712 (evenings) or pick up an order form in the Menands School Office.  Orders must be placed and paid by September 11th.  Pick-up is Friday, September 15th, 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Menands School Parking Lot.

MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The 7th annual John Weidman Golf Tournament for Muscular Dystrophy will be held on Friday, September 15th at the Town of Colonie Golf Course.  Tee times are from 7 AM to 9 AM.  Lunch and dinner along with raffles and prizes to follow at the Ganser Smith Park.  Cost is $80.  per person; reserve your foursome now by sending a payment to:

ALBANY RURAL CEMETERY
The Albany Rural Cemetery  will be hosting their 2nd Annual Civil War Day on Saturday, September 23rd from 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.  Many events are planned including horse drawn tours of the cemetery, re-enactments, the firing of an actual civil war cannon and President Lincoln will be there too!  Food vendors and rest room facilities on site.  This is a great time for kids and adults to enjoy some of our local history relating to the Civil War era.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR A VILLAGE WIDE
GARAGE SALE
Parks & Beautification Committees are planning a Fall Fund Raiser Garage Sale on Saturday, September 30th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  For a nominal fee of $15.00, it will include a map of all participants and also advertising.  Funds raised will be applied towards Parks and Beautification improvements in the Village.  Please call Lynda Long at 436-1300 for information and sign-up.

ST. JOAN OF ARC
St. Joan of Arc will offer Faith Formation classes every Sunday beginning October 15th, 2006.  For registration forms and further information, please call Kirsten Suberg at St. Joan of Arc @ 463-0378.
