VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, July 17, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
GARBAGE NOTICE
Garbage placed curbside must be in clear or white (opaque) plastic garbage bags and/or placed in a conforming garbage container.
BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc. Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
RAILROAD CROSSINGS
The Railroad Police have advised the Village that tickets will be issued if you are on or seen on the railroad tracks at other than designated crossings.

RECREATION CENTER
Membership applications are being accepted for membership in the multi-purpose family recreation and wellness facility off Wolf Road. Applications are available at the Village of Menands Office and at the Colonie Youth Center located at 272 Maxwell Road, Latham. Also you can have the application emailed to you by sending an email to Brian Hogan at bhogan@colonieyouthcenter.org
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens Club is planning a trip to New Jersey for lunch and a show titled Bickermans Renew Their Vows.” For reservations, please call Gert Kutz at 462-1860. Cost is $40.00 and the bus will leave Bethany at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2006. A trip is also planned on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 to Mohonk House. A delicious lunch will be served. For reservations, please call Gert Kutz at 462-1860 or Pat Grant at 436-8772. Cost - $43.00 and bus will leave Bethany at 9:45 a.m. The Club had a very successful picnic at Ganser-Smith Park on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. The Club will still meet every
Thursday during the summer at Bethany Hall from 10 to 2pm.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.). Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on Sept. 6th &, Oct. 4th 4 p.m. –
7 p.m. Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal. A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.
TEMPORARY SALES
Residents are reminded that garage sale signs are to be removed after the sale. Also, please get permission of the owner of the property where you are going to place the signs.
4th OF JULY CELEBRATION
A special thank you goes out to all those who came out and supported the 4th of July celebration in the park, especially the Menands Fire Dept., Menands Jr. Softball and Baseball League, Menands True Value, Poppy’s Place, The Kindlon Family, Sherri Hayes, Andrea Kostik, Patty Miller and Sharon Murphy. 2006 MENANDS LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Mondays in the park: Celebrate National Ice Cream Month- July 17, Captain U and Professor P- July 24, Harry Potter’s Birthday-July 31, Pete’s a Pizza Party-Aug. 7 and Reader Appreciation Party-Aug. 14.
Tuesdays at 10 a.m.: All the little kids will want to join in. Bring mom, dad or the sitter, our stories could not be fitter. A craft, a snack or a short book based film also abound.
Thursdays at 12:15: Lunch and a Movie. Reservations needed. Escape to Witch Mountain-July 20, Jungle Book- July 27, Swiss Family Robinson-Aug. 3, Rescuers-Aug. 10 and Parent Trap-Aug 17.
Thursdays at 7 p.m.: Come into our craft nook. Boys and girls ages seven and up can stop by and give different ology crafts a try.
MENANDS SCHOOL NEWS
Six Menands School students took home a total of eight medals in the Junior Olympic Track & Field Competition held at Ichabod Crane High School on June 24th. Kristy Hayes won two gold medals in the 400 meter dash. Amanda Harbour won two silver medals in the 100 meter hurdles and the long jump. She also earned a bronze medal in the triple jumping. Molly Nephew earned two silver medals in high jumping and a triple jump. Brian Hayes took home a bronze medal in the 100 meters. Nikki Hayes came in seventh in the 400 meters and 20th in the 100 meters. Canaan Santiago finished 8th in the discus and 10th in the javelin. Congratulations to all of the athletes on their successful season.

MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The 7th annual John Weidman Golf Tournament for Muscular Dystrophy will be held on Friday, September 15th at the Town of Colonie Golf Course. Tee times are from 7 AM to 9 AM. Lunch and dinner along with raffles and prizes to follow at the Ganser Smith Park. Cost is $80. per person; reserve your foursome now by sending a payment to:
