VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
D.P.W. STARTED SUMMER HOURS
D.P.W. has started Summer Hours - They will be working 7 a.m. - 3 p.m, Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 11 a.m. - noon. ~This schedule will continue through Labor Day. Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 7 a.m. on your scheduled days.
GARBAGE NOTICE
Garbage placed curbside must be in clear or white (opaque) plastic garbage bags and/or placed in a conforming garbage container.
BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc. Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
YOUTH DANCE
A Youth Committee dance for Village youth is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd at the Menands Firehouse. K-6 from 6 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. $3.00. Price includes pizza, drink and music. CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED! Be aware of parking signs posted around the firehouse.
ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
The meetings are held at the WC Littles Memorial Park at
7 p.m. New members are welcome. June 6, 2006 – Tour of Cooperative Extension Gardens will be on Wednesday, July 5, 2006.
LITTLE LEAGUE PICINIC
The annual Menands Little League picnic will be held at Ganser Smith Memorial Park on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at 6:00 P.M., rain or shine. Families are asked to contribute as follows: TEE BALL/ desserts; SOFTBALL/salads; and BASEBALL/snacks (chips, dips etc). Families with more than one child in the league, please bring whatever is assigned to your oldest child. Hotdogs, hamburgers and beverages will be provided. Assistance with setup/cleanup would be greatly appreciated. Enjoy the remainder of the season.
RAILROAD CROSSINGS
The Railroad Police have advised the Village that tickets will be issued if you are on or seen on the railroad tracks at other than designated crossings.
TEMPORARY SALES
Residents are reminded that garage sale signs are to be removed after the sale. Also, please get permission of the owner of the property where you are going to place the
STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL
Bethany Presbyterian Church is having its annual Strawberry Festival at Ganser-Smith Park on Menand Road Saturday, June 24th from 4:00 P.M. to dusk. There will be fresh picked strawberries for strawberry shortcake with fresh whipped cream or strawberries with ice cream. We will also have char broiled hamburgers and hot dogs, salads, baked beans and beverages. Don’t forget to bring your lawn chair and “set” awhile and enjoy the toe tapping music of the Suburban Sounds Community Chorus, followed by the Uncle Sam’s Barbershop Chorus of Troy. Bring the whole family. Rain or shine!
COMMUNUITY FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS
We have a number of residents who are unable to leave their homes as needed and who may be isloated. We are friends and neighbors who are willing and able to regularly contact these persons through a telephone call / and or a visit. We are also willing/able to provide transportation as needed to medical appointments, pharmacies, grocery shopping and other needed trips.
If you or someone you know is in need of such assistance, please call one of us who is listed below. We are also inviting volunteers who may be willing to help provide this assistance to those in need. We would especially welcome volunteers from the apartment compleexes in the village (Menands Garden, Park Lane, Park Hill, Dutch Village, Riverhill, Village One) to identify those in the apartments who may need help and also be willing to help assist these persons.

RECREATION CENTER
Membership applications are being accepted for membership in the multi-purpose family recreation and wellness facility off Wolf Road. Applications are available at the Village of Menands Office and at the Colonie Youth Center located at 272 Maxwell Road, Latham. Also you can have the application emailed to you by sending an email to Brian Hogan at bhogan@colonieyouthcenter.org
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens Club will hold its annual picnic at Ganser-Smith Park on Tuesday, June 27, 2006. Information on cost, menu and activities forthcoming.
On July 18th the club is planning a trip to the Tides in New Jersey for lunch and also a show titled the Bickersons. Bus will leave Bethany at 8 a.m. Menu choice and other information will be available in the next issue of the Activities. Don’t forget weekly meetings are held at Bethany every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Come join us and enjoy yourself.
TOWN OF COLONIE HOUSEHOLD
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.). Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on June 24th from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sept. 6th &, Oct. 4th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal. A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.
MENANDS FIRE CO. NEWS
June meeting will be in the park on June 6th starting at 7:00 P.M. Board of Directors meeting starting at 6:30 P.M. July meetings will be on Wednesday, July, 5th.
