VILLAGE OFFICE
The Village Office will be closed on Monday, May 29th .

TRASH SCHEDULE
There will be no trash pick up on Monday, May 29th.  Monday’s pick up will be on Tuesday, May 30th and Tuesday’s pick up will be on Wednesday, May 31st.   THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 31ST .

VILLAGE PROPERTY TAXES
Keep an eye out for your Village property tax bill; it will be mailed out on May 31, 2006.

VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2006.  All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.

D.P.W. STARTED SUMMER HOURS
D.P.W. has started Summer Hours - They will be working  7 a.m. - 3 p.m, Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches   11 a.m. - noon. ~This schedule will continue through Labor Day.  Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 7 a.m. on your scheduled days.

MENANDS ACTIVITES
EDITOR POSITION OPENING
Applications are being accepted for the Part time position of Editor of the Activities.  Applications are available at the Village Office between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.  Applications will be accepted until May 31, 2006.

GARBAGE NOTICE
Garbage placed curbside must be in clear or white (opaque) plastic garbage bags and/or placed in a conforming garbage container.

BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Menands Library - Spring Film Series Presents KATHARINE HEPBURN.  The following film will be shown on Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Menands Public Library:   MAY 23RD   -   ON GOLDEN POND

50th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
MASS IN HONOR OF FR. JILLISKY
Sunday, May 28, 2006 at 10 a.m. there will be a mass in honor of FR. Jillisky’s 50th Anniversary Celebration.  The mass will take place at St. Bernards Church, 107 Canvass Street, Cohoes (237-2721).

CARWASH
Village residents are invited to a car wash from 9 a.m. to     3 p.m. on Saturday, May 27, 2006 oin the parking lot of Sam’s Club at Latham Farms.  This activity will involve the youth group of Bethany Presbyterian Church and donations for the REACH Workcamp mission project will be accepted.  For information call Roger Collen at 436-3590

HELPING THE VICTIMS OF KATRINA
Come and see what the aftermath of Katrina was really like and what our Mission Team from the Capital District under the auspices of Presbyterian Disaster Assistance did to help in Gulfport, MS in February.  Five members of Bethany Presbyterian Church were among the group and will share their experiences through pictures on Wednesday,         May 24th. You are welcome to join us for a potluck supper beginning at 6: p.m. or just come to the presentation at 7 p.m.  We are at the corner of Lyons Avenue and Menand Road.  For more information call Peggy Pedersen at  785-6061

BROOKS BARBECUE AT MENANDS SCHOOL
The Menands School seventh grade class will be sponsoring a Brook’s Barbecue at the school on Friday, May 26th from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.  The costs are as follows:  Adult Chicken $9, Senior Chicken $8.50, Child Chicken $4.50, Adult Pork Rib $10.00, Senior Pork Rib $8.50 and Child Pork Rib $5.00.  All dinners include roll, salads, and dessert.  Both eat in and take-out are available.  Members of the Class of 2007 will began selling the tickets on May 5th. Tickets are also available at the office or by calling Mrs. Volo at 465-4561, ext. 162.  All proceeds go toward the outdoor education trip to Camp Chingachgook in September.

YOUTH DANCE
A Youth Committee dance for Village youth is scheduled for Friday, June 2nd at the Menands Firehouse. K-4 from   6 - 7:30 p.m. $2.00; 5th grade & up from 7:30 p.m. – 11 p.m.  $5.00.  Price includes pizza, drink and music. CHAPERONES ARE NEEDED!  Be aware of parking signs posted around the firehouse.  

ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
The meetings are held at the WC Littles Memorial Park at 7 p.m. New members are welcome.  June 6, 2006 – Tour of Cooperative Extension Gardens.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
There is a waiting list the June 20th trip on the “Ducks.  To add your name to this list, please call Pat Grant at    436-8772.  The Club is also planning a trip to New Jersey on July 18th to the Tides to see show  “The Bickersons”.  Future information on this trip will be in the forthcoming issues of the Menands Activities.  Don’t forget – the Club meets every Thursday at Bethany from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Drop in and visit with friends.  Bring your lunch and we will provide coffee and desserts.  Exercises on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. except the third Thursday of the month when Bingo is played.  Com join us.

                        POP WARNER FOOTBALL REGISTRATION
Watervliet Pop Warner Football Association invites Menands youth to register in its program.  Registration for all players and cheerleaders, age 5 (Flag Football) to age 12 (Pee Wee Division) who reside in Cohoes, Green Island, Maplewood, Menands & Watervliet will be held on Saturday, May 20th from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Brotherhood Park, Sixth Ave. & 25th St., Watervliet.  Registration fees for this season are: $20 flag + $20 Jersey with your child’s name to keep; $50 Tackle & Cheerleaders; $85 per Family.  Free Pop Warner Kickoff Magazine for your child.  Free Physical Exam. Certified trained coaches.

RECREATION CENTER
Membership applications are being accepted for membership in the multi-purpose family recreation and wellness facility off Wolf Road.  Applications are available at the Village of Menands Office and at the Colonie Youth Center located at 272 Maxwell Road, Latham.   Also you can have the application emailed to you by sending an email to Brian Hogan at bhogan@colonieyouthcenter.org  

TOWN OF COLONIE HOUSEHOLD
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273              (Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.).  Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on  June 24th from 3 p.m. –     6 p.m.    Sept. 6th &, Oct. 4th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m.  Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only.  Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal.  A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.
