VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
WATER METER READING HAS BEGUN
Department of Public Works has begun reading water meters in the Village.
D.P.W. STARTED SUMMER HOURS
D.P.W. has started Summer Hours - They will be working 7 a.m. - 3 p.m, Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches 11 a.m. - noon. ~This schedule will continue through September 29th. Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 7 a.m. on your scheduled days
HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS MON., MAY 8TH
The Village of Menands Water Department will begin the yearly flushing of the water system on Monday, May 8, 2006. Flushings will be completed approximately May 22, 2004. All flushing of hydrants will be conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Residents might notice discoloration in their water and should be aware this is normal and not harmful. However, residents are cautioned to check their water before doing laundry. Simply by letting the faucets run will clear up the discoloration after the flushing is completed each day.

BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc. Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.
RUMMAGE/BAKE SALE/LUNCH
Bethany Presbyterian Church is holding its annual rummage and bake sale on Saturday, May 6th. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Alight luncheon will be served. Persons interested in donating items for the sale should call the church at 463-8217 or Paula Murphy at 465-6361 to arrange a time to drop off the donated items.

Menands Library - Spring Film Series Presents KATHARINE HEPBURN. The following films will be shown on Tuesday’s at 1:30 p.m. until May 23rd. at the Menands Public Library:

BEAUTIFICATION NEWS
Next Beautification meeting will be Tuesday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at 72 Menand Road. All are welcome!
The Beautification Committee would like to thank all the adults and children who volunteered for the first Menands Spring Clean-Up on Sunday April 30th. Over 35 participants helped clean up along Broadway and Van Rensselaer Boulevard. The clean up was a major success thanks to all those who participated. Afterward, everyone enjoyed refreshments at the Ganser-Smith Park Pavilion. Participants received free t-shirts and tote bags compliments of Jim and Mike Holodak.

If you are interested in bidding on any one of them you should submit your Bid in a sealed envelope with your name, address, the size of the monitor and the amount of your Bid. Your Bid has to be in the Village Office no later then 10:00 a.m. on May 12, 2006.
MOTHER’S DAY BREAKFAST
Village residents are invited to a Mother’s Day Breakfast from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Sunday, May 14th in the church hall of Bethany Presbyterian Church, 21 North Lyon Ave. Breakfast will be prepared and served by Bethany’s your group and donations for the REACH Workcamp mission project will be accepted. MENANDS SCHOOL ANNUAL ART EXHIBIT
Tuesday, May 16th at 7 p.m. A display of artistic creations will be exhibited throughout the school representing all students in Grades K – 8th. You will see interpretations of the following: Egyptian Art, Pop Art, the “Mona Lisa”, Van Gogh, Still Life, Picasso, Clay Sculptures, Perspective Drawings, Self Portraits, “American Gothic” paintings, Greek amphoras, 3-D Letters and wonderful work from the imagination! Refreshments will be served. ALSO WE WILL HAVE THE UNVEILING OF THE WORK DONE BY THE MURAL CLUB.
MENANDS ROTARY OFFERING BOATER’S SAFETY COURSE
Safe boating and legal practices are taught in this course introducing boating to all. Students completing course earn a NYS Boater safety certificate. Ages 14 and above are required to complete this 8 hour instructor administered course and exam. This is for personal watercraft. Operators aged 10-18 will be permitted to operate a boat by themselves without a person 18 or older. Open to all with photo ID. Course fee is $30. Adults also pay a mandatory fee of $10 to NYS Parks and Recreation. Proceeds benefit Menands Rotary for their Scholarship fund. Course is taught at Menands Fire Hall (above firehouse) Saturday May 20th 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Boy Scouts will provide a light lunch for $5. To

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
There is a waiting list for the Menands Senior Citizens trip to the Log Cabin on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. If you wish to add your name to this list, please call Arnold Hamm at 869-3020. Also a waiting list for the Club’s trip to Aquaducks on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. People going on this trip should be at the North Albany American Legion Post on North First Street, Albany at 1:00 p.m. You must provide own transportation to the Post. Duck will leave at 2p.m. Upon returning the Post will serve a hot and cold buffet at 5:00 p.m. Cost - $15.00. To put your names on this waiting list, please call Pat Grant at 436-8772. TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWN OF COLONIE, ALBANY, NY:
A public hearing on the proposed 2006-2007 Budget for the Menands Union Free School District and the Menands Public Library shall be held at the Menands School on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School. District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 10th. The Annual Meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands Union Free School District, Village of Menands, will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to
vote by voting machine on the following items:
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD
to elect one Board of Education Member to a 5-year term
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library
to elect one Library Board of Trustee Member to a
5-year term
Applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk at Menands School. Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2006.
BROOKS BARBECUE AT MENANDS SCHOOL
The Menands School seventh grade class will be sponsoring a Brook’s Barbecue at the school on Friday, May 26th from 4:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. The costs are as follows: Adult Chicken $9, Senior Chicken $8.50, Child Chicken $4.50, Adult Pork Rib $10.00, Senior Pork Rib $9.50 and Child Pork Rib $5.00. All dinners include roll, salads, and dessert. Both eat in and take-out are available. Members of the Class of 2007 will began selling the tickets on May 5th. Tickets are also available at the office or by calling Mrs. Volo at 465-4561, ext. 162. All proceeds go toward the outdoor education trip to Camp Chingachgook in September.
