ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
A Public hearing will be held on Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Municipal Building for the purpose of considering the following application for a variance:
Lloyd Dickerson, 27 Lindbergh Ave, Albany NY. is requesting a variance for a building lot application.
Such public hearings are open to the public and are accessible to the handicapped. All are encouraged to attend or to present comments in writing.
VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
WATER METER READING SET TO BEGIN
Monday, May 1, 2006 the Department of Public Works will begin reading water meters in the Village.

MENANDS SCHOOL
HEALTH SAFETY COMMITTEE MEETING
There will be a public meeting of the Menands School Health & Safety committee on Monday, April 24th at 6:30 p.m. at the Menands School to review and and discuss the recent closure of the school path during school hours.
MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Menands Library - Spring Film Series Presents KATHARINE HEPBURN. The following films will be shown on Tuesday’s at 1:30 p.m. until May 23rd. at the Menands Public Library:

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Club will have a speaker at their April 27, 2006 meeting. It will be Paul Grondahl, staff writer from the Albany Times-Union. He is presently writing the history of the Times-Union which will be celebrating its 150th Anniversary on April 21st. This promises to be a very entertaining program. Since Mr. Grondahl will be speaking at 11:00 a.m. please try and be a the meeting at 10:30 a.m. There is a waiting list for the Menands Senior Citizens trip to the Log Cabin on Tuesday, May 23, 2006. If you wish to add your name to this list, please call Arnold Hamm at 869-3020. Also a waiting list for the Club’s trip to Aquaducks on Tuesday, June 20, 2006. People going on this trip should be
at the North Albany American Legion Post on North First Street, Albany at 1:00 p.m. You must provide own transportation to the Post. Duck will leave at 2:00 p.m. Upon returning the Post will serve a hot and cold buffet at 5:00 p.m. Cost - $15.00. To put your names on this waiting list, please call Pat Grant at 436-8772.
HYDRANT FLUSHING BEGINS MON., MAY 8TH
The Village of Menands Water Department will begin the yearly flushing of the water system on Monday, May 8, 2006. Flushings will be completed approximately May 22, 2004. All flushing of hydrants will be conducted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Residents might notice discoloration in their water and should be aware this is normal and not harmful. However, residents are cautioned to check their water before doing laundry. Simply by letting the faucets run will clear up the discoloration after the flushing is completed each day.

GARBAGE NOTICE
Garbage placed curbside must be in clear or white (opaque) plastic garbage bags and/or placed in a conforming garbage container.
TEMORARY SALES
Residents are reminded that garage sale signs are to be removed after the sale. Also, please get permission of the owner of the property where you are going to place the sign.
MENANDS FIRE CO. INSTALLATION
The installation of officers of Menands Fire Co. #1 and Auxiliary will be held at the Polish-American Citizens Club on Saturday, April 29th. Cocktails at 6:30 p.m.- Sign up in the lounge or call Pat Quackenbush at 783-7205 for reservations.
VILLAGE OF MENANDS CLEAN UPEARTH DAY
Village of Menands Earth Day Clean Up will be held on Sunday April 30th. Meet at Ganser-Smith Park at 1:00 p.m. Clean up will last until 3:00 p.m. – Refreshments following clean-up.
Adult Volunteers needed/families welcome!!
Bring your workgloves and join us in helping to beautify our Village. Next Beautification Meeting will be Tuesday, May 9th at 7:00 p.m. at 72 Menand Road. All are welcome!

The meetings are held at the WC Littles Memorial Park at 7 p.m. New members are welcome.
May 2nd - IRIS PRESENTATION
RUMMAGE/BAKE SALE/LUNCH
Bethany Presbyterian Church is holding its annual rummage and bake sale on Saturday, May 6th. From 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. A light luncheon will be served. Persons interested in donating items for the sale should call the church at 463-8217 or Paula Murphy at 465-6361 to arrange a time to drop off the donated items.
TOWN OF COLONIE HOUSEHOLD
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (Mon. – Fri. 9-5 p.m.). Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on May 17th, Sept. 6th &, Oct. 4th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. & June 24th from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal. A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.

MENANDS ROTARY OFFERS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIPS - The Rotary Club of Menands is offering a $250 scholarship to a Menands resident who will graduate high school this June and attend college next fall. Applications are available at the Village Office and Menands School. Completed Applications must be received by May 1st, in an envelope marked to Ron Miller and left at Village Office. For any questions about the Application please contact Ron Miller day/evening at 463-8144.
MENANDS ROTARY OFFERING BOATER’S SAFETY COURSE - Safe boating and legal practices are taught in this course introducing boating to all. Students completing course earn a NYS Boater safety certificate. Ages 14 and above are required to complete this 8 hour instructor administered course and exam. This is for personal watercraft. Operators aged 10-18 will be permitted to operate a boat by themselves without a person 18 or older. Open to all with photo ID. Course fee is $30. Adults also pay a mandatory fee of $10 to NYS Parks and Recreation. Proceeds benefit Menands Rotary for their Scholarship fund. Course is taught at Menands Fire Hall (above firehouse) Saturday May 20th 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Boy

TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWN OF COLONIE, ALBANY, NY:
A public hearing on the proposed 2006-2007 Budget for the Menands Union Free School District and the Menands Public Library shall be held at the Menands School on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 6:30 p.m. The budgets will be available for review on May 1, 2006 at the Menands School Central Office. Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School. District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 10th. The Annual Meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands Union Free School District, Village of Menands, will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 between the hours of 12:00 p.m.
and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items:
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD
to elect one Board of Education Member to a 5-year term
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library
to elect one Library Board of Trustee Member to a 5-year term
Applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk at Menands School. Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2006.
Items to be included in next edition of the Menands Activities dated May 5, 2006 WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN THE VILLAGE OFFICE AFTER 9 A.M. MONDAY, May 1, 2006.
