VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The Annual Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, April 3, 2006.  All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.

DUMPSTER RESERVATIONS BEGIN APRIL 3RD
Beginning April 3rd the Village Office will be taking reservations for the Dumpster.  The Village DPW will loan the dumpster to Village residents only, for their personal use.  No contractor’s debris will be accepted.  The Village crew will leave the dumpster in your driveway on a Wednesday and pick it up the following Wednesday.  Mark your calendar for April 3rd to stop in or call the Village Office at 434-2922 to schedule the drop off of dumpster.

LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church will once again be offering soup for sale during the Lenten season.  The second soup, Corn Chowder, will be available Friday, March 24th.  One quart of soup costs $3.75.  Small loaves of homemade bread will also be available at $1.25 per loaf.  To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Jean Lamere at 462-9827, or fill out a coupon available at the church.  Soup will be available for pick up between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.  The final soup (turkey vegetable) will be available April 7th.

MENANDS PUBLIC LIBRARY
Menands Library - Spring Film Series Presents KATHARINE HEPBURN.  The following films will be shown every Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. until May 23rd. at the Menands Public Library:

BEAUTIFICATION / PARK MEETING
There will a joint Beautifician and Park meeting held on Thursday, March 30th at 7:00 p.m.  at the Village Courthouse.

ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
Tues., April 4, 2006 - Cooperative Extension Presentation.  The meetings are held at the WC Littles Memorial Park at 7 p.m. New members are welcome.

PTA SPAGHETTI DINNER
The Menands School PTA will be holding their annual Spaghetti Dinner at the school from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 5th (the date changed from Menands community calendar).   Prices are: adults $6, Seniors $5, Children (3 – 13 yrs) $3, and children under 3 yrs are free.  Tickets are available from any Menands School student or at the door.  Menu includes spaghetti and meatballs, tossed salad, bread, dessert and beverage.  Eat in or Take out.  Also, before or after dinner, why not try your luck at winning cool prizes in our raffle drawing.  Please be sure that children are accompanied by an adult.  If you would like to volunteer, or if you would like to donate toward our raffle, please call Dianne MacFarland at 253-4925.  Come support the children of Menands School.  Thank you!

EASTER PARTY
The annual Village Easter party will be held on Saturday, April 8th at the Ganser Smith Park from 10– 11 a.m. (rain or shine).  The Easter Egg Hunt will start promptly at      10:15 a.m. DON’T BE LATE!!  Make sure you bring an Easter Basket to collect your eggs.  The Easter Bunny will be there so don’t forget your cameras!!  There will be bagels, cookies, coffee and juice so come hungry and ready to find some eggs!!  AS ALWAYS, VOLUNTEERS ARE NEEDED; please call Heather at 432-8521.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens next trip will be on Tuesday, April 11, 2006 to the Pertshire Theater near Amsterdam for lunch and show titled “Springtime in New York.”           Cost - $35.00 includes lunch and the show.   Bus will leave Bethany at 10 a.m. and return after a stop at the Mill on the Hill.  For reservations, please call Gert Kutz at 462-1860.

Also on Monday, April 17, 2006 the Club will take a trip to Turning Stone Casino for a show titled “Star Spangled Sprung” and lunch.  Cost is $25.00 and reservations can be made by calling Flora Caswell at 434-0916.  Bus will leave Bethany at 9:00 a.m. and return after the show.
The Club is planning a trip in May to the Log Cabin for a lobster bake with Entertainment provided by the Riverboat Ramblers.  More information on this trip will be in the forthcoming issues of Menands Activities.
                
MENANDS JUNIOR BASEBALL/SOFTBALL
Registration for the 2006 season of the Menands Junior Baseball/Softball League will take place Saturday’s from  9 – 12 p.m. at the Menands School Gym Lobby during March.  Tee-ball; Baseball and Softball ages 5 – 12 yrs for Boys, 5 – 14 yrs for Girls.  For more information contact Paul DeDominicis @ 426-1202.

REQUEST FOR TRANSPORTATION-  MENANDS UFSD
All requests for transportation to private/parochial schools and high schools including Shaker H.S. and Watervliet H.S. which students will be attending during the 2006-2007 school year must be submitted by residents to the Menands School.  Separate request forms must be completed for each child.  Written requests for transportation must be made by April 1 of each year.  All requests must be completed on an annual basis.  Late submission of applications could jeopardize your child's right to transportation.  If a child's placement or acceptance at a particular school has not been finalized, return a completed request form in anticipation of attendance.  New residents must submit a written request immediately after establishing residence in the district.  Application forms are available at the Menands School.  All requests must be completed on an annual basis.  (Children attending Menands School K – 8 need not fill out a request.)   The Completed form may be (1) mailed: Menands School 19 Wards Lane, Menands NY  12204.   (2) Faxed at 465-4572 or (3) hand delivered to the Main Office at Menands School.

MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT
Notice is hereby given that the fiscal affairs of the School District for the period beginning on July 1, 2004 and ending June 30, 2005 have been examined by an independent public accountant, Sperry, Cuono, Holgate & Churchill, CPAs, PC, that the report of external audit has been filed in my office where it is available as a public record for inspection by all interested persons.  Pursuant to section thirty-five of the general municipal law, the Governing Board of the School District may, in its discretion, prepare a written response to the report and file any such response in my office as a public record for inspection by all interested persons not later than 90 days from the date hereof.                                                               Patricia M. TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWN OF COLONIE, ALBANY, NY:
A public hearing on the proposed 2006-2007 Budget for the Menands Union Free School District and the Menands Public Library shall be held at the Menands School on Monday, May 8, 2006 at 6:30 p.m.  The budgets will be available for review on May 1, 2006 at the Menands School Central Office.
 Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 10, 2006 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School.  District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 10th.
The Annual Meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands Union Free School District, Village of Menands, will be held on Tuesday, May 16, 2006 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items:

to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD
to elect one Board of Education Member to a 5-year term
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands  Public Library
to elect one Library Board of Trustee Member to a 5-year term

Nominating petitions for the Board of Education and Library Board of Trustees seats may be obtained from Patricia M. Miller, District Clerk, at Menands School.  Completed petitions are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006.

Applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk at Menands School.  Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to be mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter.  Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 16, 2006.
