VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The next regular Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, February 21, 2006. All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.
THERE WILL BE NO TRASH PICK UP ON
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20TH
Monday’s pick up will be Tuesday, February 21st and Tuesday’s pick up will be on Wednesday, February 22nd . Recycling days will remain the same. There will be NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, 2/22/06.
PAVILION RESERVATIONS BEGIN MARCH 1st
Village residents and Village organizations and businesses may reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in the Village Office beginning Wednesday, March 1st at 8 a.m.
DUMPSTER RESERVATIONS BEGIN APRIL 3RD
Beginning April 3rd the Village DPW will loan a dumpster to Village residents only, for their personal use. No contractor’s debris will be accepted. The Village crew will leave the dumpster in your driveway on a Wednesday and pick it up the following Wednesday. Call the Village Office at 434-2922 to reserve the dumpster.
POT HOLES
The Village is asking residents to report any pot holes they know of. You can call the Village Garage at 463-5114.
40th ANNIVERSARY OF THE
MENANDS COLLEEN
Menands St. Patrick’s Club is celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Menands Colleen. We would like to encourage all past Colleen’s to participate in the St. Patrick Day parade celebrations. Please contact Marshall Meg Grenier at 463-5196.

MISS COLLEEN CONTEST
Any Village girl, 9th grade or older, may enter with their parent’s permission. Drawing will be held at the February 12th meeting. Miss Colleen and her court will represent Menands in the Albany Parade on March 12th and host the dinner dance held at the firehouse that evening. MENANDS ST. PATRICK’S CLUB NEWS
“Sweetheart” Breakfast - Sunday, February 12th 8a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Menands Fire House. All you can eat buffet breakfast: Adults $5.00, Kids 12 and under $3.00, Kids Under 5 Free. Sponsored by the Menands St. Patrick’s Club.
Meeting Dates - Menands St. Patrick’s Club will meet on the following Sunday’s at 12:00 p.m. at the Menands Fire House 2/12, 2/26, 3/5 & 3/19 (wrap-up meeting). New members are welcome!
Dinner Dance - Saturday, March 11h everyone is invited to a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner at the Menands Firehouse from 4:30 – 7:00 p.m. - Irish Dancers, Bag Pipers and a Live Band 7:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. cost - $13.00 (take out $7.00). For more information contact Meg Grenier at 463-5196.
BOY SCOUT SPAGHETTI SUPER
Boy Scout Troop 99 is hosting its annual Valentine’s Spaghetti Supper on Wednesday, February 15, 2006 from 5 – 7 p.m. at the Menands Fire Company, 250 Broadway. Cost is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 children under 10 and FREE for children under 3. Come enjoy a traditional Spaghetti Supper with Spaghetti or Ziti, Meatballs, Tossed Salad, Italian Bread and Beverage, or perhaps try our delicious Alfredo Sauce. Take Outs are available starting at 4:30 p.m. Troop 99 THANKS YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT!!!
LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church will once again be offering soup for sale during the Lenten season. The first soup, Genoa Minestrone (veg), will be available Friday, March 10th. One quart of soup costs $3.75. Small loaves of homemade bread will also be available at $1.25 per loaf. To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Jean Lamere at 462-9827, or fill out a coupon available at the church, or drop in on March 10th. Soup will be available for pick up between 3:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. Other soups and breads will also be available on March 24th and April 7th.

REQUEST FOR TRANSPORTATION –
MENANDS UFSD
All requests for transportation to private or parochial schools which students will be attending during the 2006-2007 school year must be submitted by residents to the Menands School. This includes students attending Shaker H.S. and Watervliet H.S. Separate request forms must be completed for each child. Written requests for transportation must be made by April 1st of each year. Late submission of applications could jeopardize your child’s right to transportation. If a child’s placement or acceptance at a particular school has not been finalized, return a completed request form in anticipation of attendance. New residents must submit a written request immediately after establishing residence in the district. Application forms are
available at the Menands School. All requests must be completed on an annual basis.
(Children attending Menands School K-8 need not fill out a request).
KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
If you are a resident of the Menands Union Free School District and have a child who will be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2006, please call the Menands School at 465-4561 to register for the upcoming school year. You will be sent a registration packet in the mail.

I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped out with the Village Youth Christmas Party. I realize that is was over a month ago and I apologize for the delay in my Thank You. Without all who volunteer, celebrations for the children are truly impossible. I thank you all!! Heather Whalen
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens Club is planning a trip on Friday, March 17, 2006 (St. Patrick’s Day) to Chez Joseph for an Irish Shindig show and a typical Irish meal Cost - $45.00. For reservations, please contact Arnold Hamm at 869-3020. Bus will leave Bethany at 8:30 a.m. and return after the show.
Another trip is planned for April to the Perthshire Theater (outside the City of Amsterdam) for dinner and a show titled “Springtime in New York.” Information regarding time of departure, menu and cost will be included in upcoming issues of Menands Activities.
The Tour Committee is now holding meetings to plan for future trips. Don’t forget you have to be a member of a club to able to go on our trips. At the Club’s monthly meeting on Thursday, February 23, 2006. Bob Kovachick, meteorologist on TV Channel 13 will be our guest speaker. Bob will be here at 10:30 a.m. to tell us lots of interesting information regarding weather in our area. It promises to be a great meeting, so please plan to attend.
ALBANY EVENING GARDEN CLUB
Tuesday, March 7, 2006 – Video presentation on State Parks.
Tuesday, April 4, 2006 – Cooperative Extension Presentation. The meetings are held at the WC Littles Memorial Park at 7 p.m. New members are welcome. There are No meetings scheduled in February.
