VILLAGE BROAD MEETING
The next regular Village Board meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2005.  All meetings are open to the public and handicapped accessible.

VILLAGE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS & SNOW REMOVAL
To provide you with the best service possible, the Department of Public Works (DPW) would like to remind everyone that your cooperation is needed during the winter months for proper plowing, salting and snow removal.  If you have a driveway or an off street parking space, please use it during the winter months and especially during a snow or ice storm as vehicles parked on the street hinder plowing operations.  Additionally, anything that you might have in the Village’s right-of-way, such as a basketball hoop should be moved and stored for the winter.  The Village will not be responsible for damage to any items left in the Village’s right-of-way.  Also if your vehicle is parked in the street and it prevents the snowplow from passing, the vehicle WILL be towed at the owner’s expense.

                SANTA’S COMING
Santa and the Menands Fire Company will be traveling the streets of Menands on Saturday, December 17th starting at 10 am in the South End. Listen for the Christmas Music and Sirens.  MERRY CHRISTMAS from Menands Fire Company.

DISCOUNT MOVIE TICKETS
Menands School PTA is once again selling Regal Cinema discount movie tickets.  These VIP Super Saver movie tickets cost only $7.00 each, never expire and are accepted nationwide at Regal Cinemas, United Artist Theatres and Edwards Theatres.  They make great holiday gifts, stocking suffers and thank you gifts.  Please call Dianne MacFarland at 253-4925 to order.

BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.

DOG COMPLAINTS
The Village Office is once again receiving complaints concerning dogs running loose and leaving “deposits” on resident’s lawns.  There is a leash law as well as a “pooper scooper” law in the Village.  Tickets will be issued and fines will be assessed to violators.

MENANDS LIBRARY POCKET CALENDERS
The 2006 pocket calendars are now available at the Menands Public Library.  Supplies are limited so, please, only one per card holder.

MENANDS ROTARY PROJECT TO AID
KATRINA DEVASTATED MISSISSIPPI LIBRARY
The Rotary Club of Menands is collecting materials to help rebuild the library collection of the Long Beach, Mississippi Library.  We are pleased that there is some good news to report.  Long Beach Rotary President Bob Kranz indicates that a structural engineer’s study finds the building might not be condemned.  From the Gulf Coast to the railroad tracks, the heart of the city, about 85% of the community has been destroyed.  In order help to restore their library collection, Menands area residents & friends can join in this effort by donating any good condition books (hardcover or paperback) or magazines.  We are pleased with the response so far.  THANK YOU!! This is a long term project as the materials can not be sent to them until they have a place for them!  Please bring items to the designated area at the Menands Library or the Menands Cooperative Office.  If you have any questions contact Art Shelmandine(432-8009) or Mel Horowitz (449-8817).

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Menands Senior Citizens Club wishes to thank the Village for their cooperation and interest throughout the past year and look forward to continuing our services to the Seniors of Menands in 2006.  The Senior’s Christmas party was held on Sunday, December 11th.  Over 100 People joined in the festivities.  It was a huge success and thanks go to the committee who worked very hard to make this a very pleasant event.  Don’t forget – our weekly meetings are held every Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Bethany Hall.  Drop in and see us – we’re sure you will enjoy it.  Dues will be collected during January - $5.00.
REMINDER – if Menands School is closed because of inclement weather, the Senior meeting will be cancelled.

INCLEMENT WEATHER AND
SCHOOL CLOSINGS
When there is inclement weather, residents should tune to WGY, WROW or WTRY radio as well as TV channels 6, 10 and 13 for school closings or late openings.  Also, when school is canceled during the day, after school and night activities at the school are also canceled.  If you have changed home/work phone numbers or emergency contacts, please contact the Menands School (465-4561).  If the Menands School is closed due to weather, there will be NO transportation to any school outside the District.  If the Menands School is opening later due to weather, all bus runs will be delayed in Menands.  For example, if the Menands School is opening one hour late, then all buses transporting students outside the district will also be running one hour later.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS
TO ALL
