VILLAGE OF MENANDS BOARD MEETING
The next Regular Meeting of the Menands Village Board will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 6, 2005 in the Village Municipal Building. All meetings are handicapped accessible and open to the public.
PUBLIC HEARING
A public hearing will be held on Monday, September 19, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Municipal Building for: A Local Law Amending Chapter 82 of the Village of Menands Municipal Code Concerning GARBAGE, RUBBISH AND RECYCLING COLLECTION. Copies of proposed Local Law is available at the Village Office and on the WEBSITE, under Village Board Minutes.
The Regular Village Board Meeting will be Held immediately Following the Above Public Haring.
HOLIDAY TRASH SCHEDULE
Due to the observance of Labor Day, there will be no trash collection on Monday, September 5th. Monday’s pick up will be Tuesday, September 6th and Tuesday’s pick up will be Wednesday, September 7th. THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH. Recycling Days will remain unchanged.
REMINDER TO RESIDENTS
Residents are asked to keep debris and trash out of any creek on their property, as it can eventually clog the storm water drainage system. Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter. Brush and grass clippings are picked up by the Village.
ENTERTAINMENT BOOKS
The Menands School PTA is selling the 2005-2006 Entertainment Books at the new discounted price of $30.00 to raise funds for our visiting Author/Artist Program. Sale begins September 16th , but books may be pre-ordered by calling Dianne MacFarland at 253-4925. Remember these make great gifts and we have books available for many out-of-town locations.

HUMANE SOCIETY
An OLD FASHION ICE CREAM SOCIAL will be held on Sunday, August 28th, at Amberfields Farm in Averill Park from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tickets $15 adults and $5 for children. Come and join us for an afternoon of fun and games for entire family. For more information contact Terri Cook at 434-1573 ext. 214.
RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE PEOPLE OF THE VILLAGE OF MENANDS TO POLICE OFFICER PETER J. FORNER AND HONORING HIM UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE MENANDS POLICE DEPARTMENT.
WHEREAS, Peter J. Forner began his employment with the Village of Menands in the Department of Public Works on October 29, 1973 and was appointed a police officer on June 1, 1979, and
WHEREAS, having served the citizens of this Village faithfully and well for over thirty years, Peter will commence his well deserved retirement from these labors on August 20, 2005, and
WHEREAS, Officer Peter J. Forner has been, and is, held in high esteem and affection by the members of this Board, and by the residents of this Village who have known him and benefited by his continuing friendship and contributions to the community, and
NOW, THEREFORE , be it
RESOLVED, that we, the members of this Board, personally and on behalf of the citizens of this Village, extend our most sincere thanks and gratefully appreciation to our friend and police office, Peter J. Forner, not only for his sound judgment, but also for his personal commitment to good government and a better society and we do, further, unreservedly extend to him our heartfelt gratitude and best wishes for a long, fulfilling and happy and healthy life in retirement with his lovely wife Gladys and their daughter Regina and all of Peter’s family, and be it further
RESOLVED, that Officer Peter J. Forner was honored at the Polish American Citizens Club in Albany on the evening of July 29, 2005, by his family, friends, neighbors and associates to congratulate him on his many years of service to this community, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the Clerk-Treasurer be, and he hereby is, directed to cause this resolution to be published in the Menands Activities and to transmit a certified copy hereof to Peter J. Forner, and be it further
RESOLVED, that when this meeting adjourns, it do so in appreciation of the many services so generously rendered to this Village by Police Officer and friend, Peter J. Forner.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
Friday, September 23 – we are going on a Mystery Tour. Cost - $42.00. A gourmet meal will be served. For reservations, please call Arnold at 869-3020. Bus will leave Bethany at 7:30 a.m. Come join in the adventure.
On Tuesday, October 4, 2005, we will go to Platz Brauhaus. Cost - $36.00. Join in the Oktoberfest for plenty of good German food and entertainment. Please call Arnold at 869-3020 for reservations.
Don’t forget to go on a trip; you must belong to a Club. Stop in at one of our weekly meetings at Bethany, Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all the details.
MUMS SALE
The Menands School PTA is once again having their annual Mum fundraiser. The beautiful, large florist-size plants are available in yellow, white, burgundy, purple, pink and orange/rust for $6.00 each. You may pre-order by calling Dianne MacFarland at 253-4925 (anytime) or Kerry Franklin at 462-3712 (evenings). Order forms are available in the Menands School lobby and will be going home with students the first day of school. Pre-order deadline is Wednesday, September 14th, pick-up and payment will be Friday, September 16th 3-6 p.m. in the Menands School parking lot. Brizzell’s Flower Farm retail business is closed; our sale is the only place to purchase their beautiful mums this year.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (9-5 p.m.). Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on., Sept. 7 & Oct. 5th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal

The John Weidman Memorial Golf Tournament
will be held on Friday, September 16th at the Town of Colonie Golf Course. All Proceeds will be going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. It will be a
