VILLAGE WATER/SEWER INVOICES
Keep an eye out for your water/sewer bills; they were mailed out on July 1, 2005.  If you have not received them call the Village Office at 434-2922.  On August 1, 2005 one percent interest will be added.

D.P.W. STARTED SUMMER HOURS
D.P.W. has started Summer Hours - They will be working  7 a.m. - 3 p.m, Monday thru Friday, taking their lunches   11 a.m. - noon. ~This schedule started July 13, 2005, it will continue through Labor Day.  Pick-up of Garbage, Recycling and Special Pickups will start at 7 a.m. on your scheduled days.

Starting Tuesday, September 6, 2005 D.P.W. will go back to their regular hours 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., lunch’s will be        noon - 1p.m.

HONORING SERVICE PERSONS
We would like to honor the Village of Menands residents who are in the Military.  Please contact the Village office with Name, mailing address and email address of the service person.  The information can be mailed to Village of Menands, 250 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204 or faxed at 427-7303.

ATTENTION RESIDENTS
Is your house number clearly visible from the street, both during the day and at night.  During an emergency seconds do count, so help out our Police & Emergency personnel to identify your house.  Information is available at the Police Station on E911 requirements.

NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH
Anyone interested in the Neighborhood Watch Program please call the Police Department at 463-1681 or the Village Office at 434-2922.  There will be a Meeting Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Firehouse.

YOUTH PROGRAM
Park Program Packets are available at the Village Office; the packets include activities for the Park Program, Permission slip forms and a calendar of the field trips.

REMINDER TO RESIDENTS
Residents are asked to keep debris and trash out of any creek on their property, as it can eventually clog the storm water drainage system.  Thank you for your cooperation with this important matter.  Brush and grass clippings are picked up by the Village.

BUILDING PERMITS
Please call the Village Building Inspector at 434-2922 if you are planning any construction, pool, and roof or shed installation, etc.  Be advised it takes approximately one week from receiving an application to the issuance of a building permit.

A huge Congratulations to Bob Schanz, recipient of the 2005 Citizen of the Year Award given by The Menands Rotary Club for outstanding commitment to the community.




MENANDS FIRE COMPANY NEWS
Menands Fire Company would like to congratulate Lt. Greg Hirsch & his wife Sarah, President of the Auxiliary on the birth of their daughter Skyler on 6/2705 at 6:51 p.m., 8lbs 20 inches long.  Also, congratulations to Luke for becoming a big brother.  Congratulate also to the following members for their recent engagements; Asst. Chief Ryan Handerhan to Tanya Brozdzinski; firefighter Brian Stock to Kelly Limbo & Firefighter Mark Weber to Thyra Gilbert.

ATTENTION MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
The Village will be accepting sealed BIDS for each of the following window air conditioners.
             1 - 8,000 BTU cost - $199.00 ea.
         4 – 7,000 BTU cost - $150.00 ea.
         2 – 5,000 BTU cost - $  79.00 ea.
If you are interested in bidding on any one of them you should submit your Bid in a sealed envelope with your name, address, the size of the air conditioner and the amount of your Bid.  Your Bid has to be in the Village Office no later then 10:00 a.m. Monday August 1, 2005.

TUNE IN TO THE 2005 MENANDS LIBRARY SUMMER READING PROGRAM AT             GANSER-SMITH PARK
Wednesday, August 3rd. – 11 a.m. the Tang Museum presents everyday art.  Space for this one is limited.

MENANDS SCHOOL NEWS
Due to the emergency dismissal on June 24th, there are still many classroom materials and certificates to be picked up.  Summer hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

MAYOR JOHN WEIDMAN 2005
MEMORIAL GOLF TOURNAMENT
The John Weidman Memorial Golf Tournament will be held on Friday September 16th at the Town of Colonie Golf Course.  All Proceeds will be going to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.  It will be a SHOTGUN            START AT 8 AM.  Lunch, dinner and prizes to follow at the Ganser Smith Park immediately after golf.  Cost is $70 per person, which includes golf, cart, food and prizes.  The Tournament is limited to 144 people, so sign up early to reserve your foursome. MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
CORRECTION – Our trip to MacHayden Theatre to see “Brigadoon” is still August 31st.  However, the day is Wednesday not Sunday as previously announced.  Cost is $35.00.  After the show, we will eat at Kozel’s restaurant.  Bus will leave Bethany at 12:30 p.m.  For reservations, please call Gert at 462-1860 or Pat at 436-8772.

Friday, September 23 – we are going on a Mystery Tour.  Cost - $42.00.  A gourmet meal will be served.  For reservations, please call Arnold at 869-3020.  Bus will leave Bethany at 7:30 a.m.  Come join in the adventure.

Then on Tuesday, October 4, 2005, we will go to Platz Brauhaus.  Cost - $36.00.  Join in the Oktoberfest for plenty of good German food and entertainment.  Please call Arnold at 869-3020 for reservations.

Don’t forget to go on a trip; you must belong to a Club.  Stop in at one of our weekly meetings at Bethany, Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for all the details.

HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273              (9-5 p.m.).  Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on., Sept. 7 & Oct. 5th   4 p.m. – 7 p.m.   Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only.  Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal

NOTICE FROM CHIEF O’BRIEN
        Residents are reminded to be alert for unsolicited contractors attempting to procure home improvement and repair work.  Residents should deal with only known and established contractors of proven reliability and reputation.  Any suspicious persons should be reported to the Police Department at any time.
BE AWARE a lottery company is telling senior citizens they are winning a lot of money and asking them for personal information including banking information.
ALSO there are still quantities of firearm locks available to Village Residents at no charge courtesy of Project Child Safe, a nationwide program promoting firearm safety.  Locks can be obtained at the Police Department Communications section at any time.
