ATTENTION RESIDENTS
Is your house number clearly visible from the street, both during the day and at night. During an emergency seconds do count, so help out our Police & Emergency personnel to identify your house. Information is available at the Police Station on E911 requirements.
NOTICE FROM CHIEF O’BRIEN
Residents are reminded that with the spring season upon us, to be alert for unsolicited contractors attempting to procure home improvement and repair work. Residents should deal with only known and established contractors of proven reliability and reputation. Any suspicious persons should be reported to the Police Department at any time.
ALSO there are still quantities of firearm locks available to Village Residents at no charge courtesy of Project Child Safe, a nationwide program promoting firearm safety.
Locks can be obtained at the Police Department Communications section at any time.
VILLAGE PARKS COMMITTEE
The Committee will meet on Thursday, April 28th in the Village Hall Court Room at 7:30 p.m. The Agenda will include: Discussion of an official opening celebration for the new Ganser-Smith Playground; Identifying additional priority improvements to parks under the Village’s adopted master plans; Seeking grants and other funds to support these improvements. All residents of the Village are invited to come to the meeting and those interested in joining the Committee should contact Village Trustee Ron Miller at 463-8144.
MENANDS LIBRARY SPRING FILM SERIES
Every Tuesday at 1pm until May 24th the Menands Public Library will be showing a film starring Dustin Hoffman. The upcoming films are as follows:

CAR WASH AT THE FIREHOUSE
Village residents are invited to a car wash from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 30th in the parking lot of the Menands Firehouse at 250 Broadway. This activity will involve the youth group of Bethany Presbyterian Church and donations for the REACH Workcamp mission project will be accepted. For information call Roger Collen at 436-3590.
RUMMAGE/BAKE SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church is holding its annual rummage and bake sale on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Persons interested in donating items for the sale should call the church at 463-8217 or Paula Murphy at 465-6361 to arrange a time to drop off the donated items.
YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM
Any ideas for the upcoming summer programs are always welcome and needed. Please call Heather @ 432-8521
BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Beautification committee will be meeting on Wednesday, May 11th @ 7 p.m in the Firehouse. One of the topics to be discussed will be Village cleanup. All are welcome to attend.
TRASH/RECYCLING/COMPOST PROGRAMS
Trash and Recyclables should be placed curbside no earlier than 6 p.m. the evening before your scheduled pick up.
Tires, wet paint, propane tanks, televisions and computer monitors and hazardous wastes are a few of the items the Village will not pick up. Call the Town of Colonie Landfill (783-2827) for information regarding the disposal of these items.
If a Wednesday “special pick up” is needed for bulky items, call the Village Office (434-2922) at least 24 hours in advance.
It is the responsibility of your contractor to take away any building supplies or building debris from your property.
Leaves and grass clippings must be bagged or placed directly in a barrel (not to exceed 40 lbs.). The Village Crew will try to pick up Leaf Bags once a week. There is no set schedule for this pick up.
Brush, limbs, etc. must be cut in approx. 3 ft. lengths and tied.
TOWN OF COLONIE HOUSEHOLD
HAZARDOUS WASTE DROP OFF DAYS
You must pre-register by calling 1-800-494-2273 (9-5 p.m.). Drop off events will be held at the Town of Colonie Landfill Site, 1319 New Loudon Rd. (Route 9), Cohoes on May 4, Sept. 7, Oct. 5th 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. & July 16th 3 p.m - 6 p.m. Residents of the Town of Colonie will be admitted by appointment only. Proof of residency will be required at the time of disposal. A list of acceptable materials is available in the Village Office.
ROTARY OFFERS DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE
The Rotary Club of Menands announces that we will offer this course once again on Saturday May 7th. The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles approved Defensive Driving Course will be held on the second floor of the Village Fire House starting at 8:00 a.m. The cost of the course is still only $29. Taking this class can lower your insurance costs and can effect any points you might have. The Boy Scouts will offer lunch on the day of the Class. Class size is limited and advance reservations are suggested. To make a reservation or if you have any questions contact Peter Mason (449-8711).

The Menands Fire Company and the Rotary Club of Menands wish to express their sincere appreciation to everyone who donated blood at our Red Cross Blood Drive on April 8th. With your support we can make this event take place every fall and spring.

Tuesday, June 21st the Club will be going on a boat trip on Lake George followed by lunch at the Fort William Henry Lodge. Cost and time of departure and return in the next issue of the Activities.
Tuesday, July 19th we are off to Cooperstown with lunch at the Hotel Otsega. More information forthcoming.
Also late in August there will be a 3-day trip to Lake Champlain with several shows, meals and lots of other good things at a very good price. For more information and details, please call Flora Caswell at 434-0916.
POP WARNER FOOTBALL REGISTRATION
Watervliet Pop Warner Football Association invites Menands youth to register in its program. Registration for all players and cheerleaders, age 5 (Flag Football) to age 12 (Pee Wee Division) will be held on Saturday, May 14th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Watervliet Little League Concession Stand, 25TH St. and 6th Ave., Watervliet. Registration fees for this season are: $20 flag + $20 Jersey with your child’s name to keep; $50 Tackle & Cheerleaders; $85 per Family. Free Pop Warner Kickoff Magazine for your child. Free Physical Exam. Certified trained coaches.

The second registration for Fall 2005 recreation soccer will be Friday, May 13th 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. & Saturday May 14th
9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at the Watervliet Civic Center @ 114th & 2nd Ave.. Children ages 5-12 yrs from Menands, Green Island, Maplewood & Watervliet participate in this league.
