DUMPSTER AVAILABLE
We will start taking reservations April 1st - the Village DPW will loan a Dumpster to Village residents only, for their personal use. No contractor’s debris will be accepted. The Village crew will leave the dumpster in your driveway on a Wednesday and pick it up the following Wednesday. Starting April 1st call the Village Office at 434-2922 to schedule drop off of the dumpster. (FIRST COME – FIRST SERVED).
MENANDS JR. BASEBALL & SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Final Registration will be held on Saturday, March 26th from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Menands Firehouse. Umpires and concession stand workers are needed. For more information, call Tom Gibbs at 434-8416.
MENANDS YOUTH BASKETBALL
Ed Malone, Menands Youth Basketball Director and basketball coach will offer skills development instruction to 8th Grade Village of Menands boys and girls who are interested in playing high school basketball. The program will run from March through May. Call Ed @ 462-9433 for more details.

MENANDS LIBRARY SPRING FILM SERIES
Every Tuesday at 1pm until May 24th the Menands Public Library will be showing a film starring either Meryl Steep or Dustin Hoffman. The upcoming films are as follows:
March 29th - River Wild
April 5th - Bridges of Madison County
April 12th – Kramer vs. Kramer
YOUTH SUMMER PROGRAM

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
Coming Events: Monday, April 11th - There are still a few seats available for our trip to the Brownstones at Paterson, NJ; we will see the show “Road to Waikiki”. Menu: honey baked ham or chicken cacciatore. Leave Bethany at 8 a.m. and return after the show. Cost is $40.00. For reservations, please call Gert Kutz at 462-1860.
Monday, May 16th – the Club will take a trip to West Point where we will have a guided tour of the Point, lunch at the Hotel Thayer and a boat ride on the Hudson River. Cost - $48.00. For reservations, please call Arnold Hamm at 869-3020. The Bus will leave Bethany at 7:15a.m.
We also have a tentative plans for trips in June and July. Information wil be forthcoming in future issues of Menands Activities.
REMINDER; Don’t forget – we have our weekly meetings at Bethany every Thursday from 10 a.m. to
3 p.m. Play Bingo every third Thursday and exercise class on the other Thursdays of the Month. Also we have a monthly meeting on the fourth Thursday. Come and join us – we have a good time.

ST. PATRICKS CLUB NEWS
Congratulations to Jackie Grenier on winning the Molly Menand; also Kyle McCauley on winning the Basket of Cheer. Sunday, April 10th at 12:30p.m. there will be a St. Patricks Meeting to discuss the future of the club. Anyone interested is welcome
ROTARY OFFERS DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE
The Rotary Club of Menands announces that we will offer this course once again on Saturday May 7th. The NYS Department of Motor Vehicles approved Defensive Driving Course will be held on the second floor of the Village Fire House starting at 8:00 a.m. Taking this class can lower your insurance costs and can effect any points you might have. The Boy Scouts will offer lunch on the day of the Class. Class size is limited and advance reservations are suggested. CO-SPONSOR BLOOD DRIVE
On Friday April 8th, from 1-6 p.m. on the second floor of the Menands Firehouse, the Menands Fire Co.#1 and the Rotary Club of Menands will sponsor a Red Cross Blood Drive. There is a great need for blood; this blood drive gives Menands residents (and anyone who is willing to come to the Firehouse on April 8th) an opportunity to become a hero by donating this precious resource. To schedule a donation appointment or obtain more information all you need to do is call 1-800-449-3543 and ask to be scheduled for the Menands April 8th Drive. One donation can save as many as three lives! Please consider supporting this important community service effort.

Each year this event brings families and neighbors together for good food, conversation and a chance to win some great prizes. EASTER SUNDAY WORSHIP SERVICES
Bethany Presbyterian Church of Menands, 21 No. Lyons Ave., invites all village residents to join us Easter Sunday, March 27th. Sunrise Service: 6:30 a.m. at Albany Rural Cemetery (enter cemetery from Menand Rd. entrance; service will be a short distance to the left) followed by a Pancake Breakfast in the Church hall. Members of the Menands Fire Auxiliary are invited to attend a “Wine & Cheese” Party at the Menands Fire House on April 11, 2005 at 7:00p.m. Members are asked to bring wine or their favorite snack. Come join the fun and get to know all your auxiliary members!

TO THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE MENANDS UNION FREE SCHOOL DISTRICT, TOWN OF COLONIE, ALBANY, NY:
Personal Registration will be on Wednesday, May 11, 2005 from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the main lobby of the Menands School. District residents registered with the County Board of Elections and who have voted once in the last four years need not register on May 11th.
A public hearing on the proposed 2005-2006 Budget for the Menands Union Free School District and the Menands Public Library shall be held at the Menands School on Monday, May 9, 2005 at 6:30 p.m. The budgets will be available for review on May 2, 2005 at the Menands School Central Office.
The Annual Meeting of the qualified voters of the Menands Union Free School District, Village of Menands, will be held on Tuesday, May 17, 2005 between the hours of 12:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in the Menands School, at which time the polls will be opened to vote by voting machine on the following items:
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands UFSD
to elect one Board of Education Member to a 5-year term
to elect one Board of Education Member to a 3-year term
to adopt the annual budget of the Menands Public Library
to elect one Library Board of Trustee Member to a 5-year term
Nominating petitions for the Board of Education and Library Board of Trustees seats may be obtained from Patricia M. Miller, District Clerk, at Menands School. Completed petitions are due by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April 18, 2005.
Applications for absentee ballots will be obtainable between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday from the District Clerk at Menands School. Completed applications for absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk at least 7 days prior to the vote if the ballot is to mailed to the voter, or the day before the election if the ballot is to be delivered personally to the voter. Absentee ballots must be received by the District Clerk not later than 5:00 p.m. on May 17, 2005.
MENANDS SCHOOL KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION
If you are a resident of the Menands Union Free School District and have a child who will be 5 years old on or before December 1, 2005, please call the Menands School at 465-4561 to register for the upcoming school year. You will be sent a registration packet in the mail.
REQUEST FOR TRANSPORTATION-
MENANDS UFSD
All requests for transportation to private or parochial schools which their children will be attending during the 2005-2006 school year must be submitted by residents to the Menands School. Separate request forms must be completed for each child. Written requests for transportation must be made by April 1 of each year. Late submission of applications could jeopardize your child's right to transportation. If a child's placement or acceptance at a particular school has not been finalized, return a completed request form in anticipation of attendance. New residents must submit a written request immediately after establishing residence in the district. Application forms are available at the Menands School. All requests must be completed on an annual
basis.

RESIDENT RECEIVES AWARD
Joe Condon of Albany Broadcasting has received the National “Silver Microphone” award for the hosting the weekly radio program “Albany Street”. Mr. Condon and “Albany Street” won in the “Documentary” category. “Albany Street” is broadcast Sunday on WROW-AM-590, WYJB-FM “B-95.5, WZMR-FM, and WIZR-AM-930, in the Amsterdam, Johnstown, Gloversville Market. Mr. Condon resides with his wife Kathleen in the Village of Menands.
