ZONING BOARD OF APPEALS
A Public hearing will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. in the Village Municipal Building for the purpose of considering the following application for a variance:
Save A Lot, 100 Broadway, is requesting a variance for a sign permit. Save A Lot is requesting relief from code setback allowances.
Such public hearings are open to the public and are accessible to the handicapped. All are encouraged to attend or to present comments in writing.
PAVILION RESERVATIONS BEING ACCEPTED
Village residents and Village organizations and businesses may reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in the Village Office.
DUMPSTER AVAILABLE
Beginning April 1st the Village DPW will loan a dumpster to Village residents only, for their personal use. No contractor’s debris will be accepted. The Village crew will leave the dumpster in your driveway on a Wednesday and pick it up the following Wednesday. Call the Village Office at 434-2922 to schedule drop off of dumpster.

MENANDS JR. BASEBALL & SOFTBALL LEAGUE
Registration will be held on Saturday, March 12th from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Menands School. Umpires and concession stand workers are needed. For more information, call Tom Gibbs at 434-8416.
MENANDS YOUTH BASKETBALL
Ed Malone, Menands Youth Basketball Director and basketball coach will offer skills development instruction to 8th Grade Village of Menands boys and girls who are interested in playing high school basketball. The program will run from March through May. Call Ed @ 462-9433 for more details.
YOUTH COMMITTEE OPEN GYM PROGRAM
High School: March 10, 17 & 31st. 8 p.m.-10 p.m.
Middle School: March 12 & 19th at 9 a.m.
MENANDS LIBRARY SPRING FILM SERIES
Every Tuesday at 1pm until May 24th the Menands Public Library will be showing a film starring either Meryl Steep or Dustin Hoffman. The upcoming films are as follows:

April 5th - Bridges of Madison County
EASTER PARTY
The Village Easter party sponsored by the youth organization will be held on Sunday, March 20th from 11:00 a.m. - 12:30p.m. At the pavilion in the Ganser-Smith park. The Easter egg hunt will start at 11:15 a.m.! Please bring a basket to collect your goodies. There will be juice, coffee, donuts, bagels & cookies and of course…
THE EASTER BUNNY! Pictures will be taken and printed out, so come and make some fun Easter memories. Volunteers are needed! Please call Heather @ 432-8521.

BEAUTIFICATION COMMITTEE
Beautification committee will be meeting on March 23, 2005 @ 7 p.m. in the Court Room of the Village Hall. All are welcome to attend.
REQUEST FOR TRANSPORTATION-
MENANDS FSD
All requests for transportation to private or parochial schools which their children will be attending during the 2005-2006 school year must be submitted by residents to the Menands School. Separate request forms must be completed for each child. Written requests for transportation must be made by April 1 of each year. Late submission of applications could jeopardize your child's right to transportation. If a child's placement or acceptance at a particular school has not been finalized, return a completed request form in anticipation of attendance. New residents must submit a written request immediately after establishing residence in the district. Application forms are available at the Menands School. All requests must be completed on an annual basis.
MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
Coming Events:
Monday, April 11th - Brownstones at Paterson, NJ; we will see the show “Road to Waikiki”. Menu: honey baked ham or chicken cacciatore. Leave Bethany at 8 a.m. and return after the show. Cost is $40.00. For reservations, please call Gert Kutz at 462-1860.
Monday, May 16th – the Club will take a trip to West Point where we will have a guided tour of the Point, lunch at the Hotel Thayer and a boat ride on the Hudson River. Cost - $48.00. For reservations, please call Arnold Hamm at 869-3020. Departure and return times in the next issue of Activities.
REMINDER; if you would like to take advantage of these trips, you can join the Club any Thursday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bethany Church Hall. Dues are $5.00 per year. Also the age requirement for membership has been changed from 60 to 55 years of age.
CONGRATULATIONS MISS COLLEEN
Our Miss Colleen for 2005 is Alexis Coates, daughter of Tom & Debra Coates. She is a sophomore at Shaker High School. She is class Treasurer and a member of the Key Club.
ST. PATRICKS CLUB NEWS
On March 12, 2005 after the parade, there will be a Corned Beef & Cabbage dinner from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Cost will be $7.00 for adults, children 12 years old and under is $5.00.
MARSHALL JOHN MCKENNA welcomes everyone to March on March 12, 2005. All marchers are asked to be at the firehouse, at 12:30 p.m..
MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR CHARLES FLINT
There will be a memorial service for Charles G. Flint at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 12th at Bethany Presbyterian Church, 21 North Lyon Ave. Mr. Flint was a physical education teacher in the Menands school system for over 30 years.
FOOD DRIVE

LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church will be offering its final soup for sale during the Lenten season. The last soup, Turkey Noodle Soup, will be available Friday March 18th. One quart of soup costs $3.50. Pie will also be available at $1.50 per slice. To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Peggy Pedersen at 785-6061, or fill out a coupon available at the church, or drop in on March 18th. Soup will be available for pick up between 3:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Thanks to all of you for your support of this event.
MOHAWK & HUDSON RIVER HUMANE SOCIETY UP COMING EVENTS
TANGO NIGHT - March 11th from 6:p.m. to 10:00p.m. At the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany, located at 405 Washington Ave. Ticket costs - $10.00 Lesson & dancing; $5.00 just dancing.
EMPTIES FOR ANIMALS - We are collecting returnable bottles & cans (beer, soda, glass, plastic). Proceeds will go to help the needy animals that come through our doors. For more info call 434-8128. Bottle pick up is available.
