PRESIDENTS DAY HOLIDAY
SCHEDULE CHANGES
VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
The next regular Village Board Meeting will be held on the second floor of the Menands Municipal Building Tuesday,  February 22, 2005 at 7:00 p.m.  All meetings are open to the public and accessible to the handicapped.
VILLAGE OFFICE
The Village Office will be closed on Monday, February 21st.
TRASH SCHEDULE
There will be no trash pick up on Monday, February 21st.  Monday’s pick up will be on Tuesday, February 22nd and Tuesday’s pick up will be on Wednesday, February 23rd.  THERE WILL BE NO SPECIAL PICK UP ON WEDNESDAY.

“SWEETHEART” BUFFET BREAKFAST
THIS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 13TH
8:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
at the
MENANDS FIREHOUSE
The Menands St. Patrick’s Club will be serving a delicious Buffet Breakfast - Eggs, Bacon, Sausage, Pancakes, Homefries, Pastries, Juice, Coffee and more!  Adults $5, Kids $3, under 5 is free.  Bring your friends and family.

LENTEN SOUP SALE
Bethany Presbyterian Church will once again be offering soup for sale during the Lenten season.  The first soup, Hearty Vegetable, will be available Friday, February 18th.  Pie will also be available at $1.50 per slice.  To reserve a quantity of soup, you may call Peggy Pedersen at 785-6061, or fill out a coupon available at the church, or drop in on February 18th.  Soup will be available for pick up between 3:30 and 6:00 p.m.  Other soups and pie will also be available on March 4th and 18th.

BEAUTIFICATION MEETING
A Village Beautification Meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on February 23rd at the Menands Firehouse.  Spring plans will be made.
PUBLIC HEARING
A public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, March 2, 2005 at 7 p.m. for the purpose of presenting the results of a water and sewer infrastructure study performed for the Village in 2003 and 2004.

MENANDS ST. PATRICKS CLUB NEWS
Help is needed Saturday, February 12th at 2 p.m. to prepare for the Sweetheart Breakfast.  Volunteers to work the breakfast on Sunday are also needed. (The next 2 meetings of the St. Patrick’s Club will be held at the Menands Firehouse at 12:15 pm on Sunday,  February 13 and February 27th.

MISS COLLEEN CONTEST
Any Village girl, 9th grade or older, may enter with their parent’s permission.  Drawing will be held at the February 27th meeting.  Miss Colleen and her court will represent Menands in the Albany Parade on March 12th and host the dinner dance held at the firehouse that evening.  Please fill out the entry form below and mail (or drop it off to): Menands St. Patrick’s Club, 250 Broadway, Menands, NY 12204.  Entries must be received by February 26th.

A RESOLUTION EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AND THE PEOPLE OF THE VILLAGE OF MENANDS TO CAROL F. BLAAUBOER AND HONORING HER UPON THE OCCASION OF HER RETIREMENT FROM THE VILLAGE OF MENANDS

               WHEREAS, Carol and her husband John, along with their children, Robin, Jeffrey, Wayne, Doreen and Kirstin moved from West Sand Lake to Menands in 1971, beginning over 30 years of public service to the Village, and
WHEREAS, after arriving in Menands, Carol was instrumental as a founding member of Riverside Volunteer Ambulance, serving as an Emergency Medical Technician and Lieutenant for many years, and
WHEREAS, during her first year in Menands, Carol contacted Social Services offering her services as a foster mother and, over the years, opened her heart and home to countless foster children, and
WHEREAS, Carol has served as a church school teacher, girl scout leader, school bus driver, police matron and presently serves as a member of the Menands Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, adding to her selfless accomplishments, and
               WHEREAS, Carol F. Blaauboer was appointed a Village of Menands part-time dispatcher on August 25, 1984 and a full-time dispatcher on January 30, 1987, serving as supervisory dispatcher for the past 12 years, and
         WHEREAS, having served the Police Department, the Fire Company and the entire Village faithfully and well for over 20 years, Carol commenced her well deserved retirement from these labors on November 26, 2004, and
          WHEREAS, Carol has been, and is, held in the highest esteem by members of this board who have noted her stellar character, superb sense of humor and genuine kindness to all in her capacities both as a dispatcher and as a neighbor, and
NOW, THEREFORE, be it
RESOLVED, that the members of this board, personally and on behalf of the citizens of this Village, extend our most sincere thanks and heartfelt gratitude to our friend, Carol Blaauboer, not only for her diligent efforts, but also for her personal commitment to making the Village of Menands a wonderful place to live and raise a family, and be it further
RESOLVED, that this Board offers Carol best wishes for a long, fulfilling and healthy life in retirement with her husband, John and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchild, and be it further
           RESOLVED, that when this meeting adjourns, it does so in appreciation of the many services so generously rendered to this Village by our friend, Carol Blaauboer

REGISTRATION FOR VILLAGE ELECTIONS
Registration for Village Elections will be Saturday, March 5, 2005 from 12:00 noon to 5 p.m. at the Menands Firehouse.  If you voted from your current address in the last General Election or in the 2003 Village Election, it is not necessary to register.  

PAVILION RESERVATIONS BEGIN
MARCH  1st
Village residents and Village organizations and businesses may reserve the pavilion at Ganser-Smith Park by stopping in the Village Office beginning Tuesday, March 1st at 8 a.m.

SPAGHETTI & MEATBALL DINNER
        Please come support Boy Scout Troop 99 at our Annual Spaghetti Dinner Wednesday, February 16th from 5 – 7:30 p.m. at the Menands Firehouse, 250 Broadway, Menands.  Take Out or Eat In.  the cost will be $5 Adult, $3 children 5-10 and under 5 Free.  Come enjoy a homemade meal of Spaghetti & Meatballs, tossed salad, bread, dessert and beverage.

STORYTELLING
The Faith & Values Story Circle of the Capital District will present Stories of Faith at St. Joan of Arc on Thursday, Feb. 10th from 7-9 p.m.  Don’t miss this chance to hear some of the area’s best storytellers.


NEW RECYCLING GUIDELINES
Plastics: - Accepted Materials: HDPE (#2) plastic bottles and PET (#1) plastic bottles.  These include soda, juice, milk, detergent and liquid soap bottles (most plastics with a neck).
Unacceptable Materials: #3 - #7 plastics (such as medicine bottles, microwave dishes, oil containers, butter tubs, yogurt and cottage cheese containers);  non-bottle #1 and #2 plastics; any plastic bags and film; 5 gal. pails.  Call the Colonie Landfill at 783-2827 with any questions.

MENANDS SENIOR CITIZENS
Wednesday, March 16TH  - “Finnegan’s Wake”, an Irish comedy at the Log Cabin in Holyoke, MA – Complete corned beef and cabbage dinner.  Cost is $43.  For reservations please call Pat at 436-8772.  Bus will leave Bethany at 9:30 a.m. and return after the show.
Tuesday, April 12th - Brownstones at Paterson, NJ; we will see a show titled “Road to Waikiki”.  Additional info in future Menands Activities.


MENANDS FIRE CO. LADIES NIGHT
Menands Fire Company will hold it’s Annual Ladies Night Dinner Dance on Saturday, March 5th.  Cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and Dinner at 7:30 p.m. Members may sign up in the firehouse lounge.


YOUTH COMMITTEE OPEN GYM PROGRAM
High School:                            February 17th; March 3, 10, 17 & 31st. 8 p.m.-10 p.m.
Middle School:;  March 5, 12 & 19th  at 9 a.m.

Items to be included in next edition of the Menands Activities, dated February 25, 2005, must be received in the Village Office by 9 a.m. Monday, February 21st
