Welcome to Menands.
On behalf of the residents, employees and public officials, I would like to welcome to the Village of Menands’ website. We hope you find what you are looking for here, but if not, please take a moment and let us know by clicking the comments link. We “Villagers” pride ourselves on the proficiency of our services and our website is no exception.
The Village of Menands and its four thousand residents honor our heritage, as we are and have been known as a vibrant, family oriented community. We take pride in our neighborhoods and all the wonderful attributes and services our small village has to offer. Menands is home to one of NYS most dedicated and professional Police Departments; a Fire Department manned by the communities' hardest working and compassionate volunteers; and a Public Works Department second to none. Our Court, its judges and clerks are one of the busiest village courts in New York and the second busiest north of NYC. The staff of the administrative team and Building Department, albeit small, run "pillar to post" insuring the needs of the residents, businesses and visitors are met in a courteous and timely manner. Last, but not least,
we boast an exceptional school district in the Menands Union Free School.
The Village encourages all citizens to be involved with keeping Menands a safe and decent place to call home. We sponsor many youth functions via our Youth Director with in-put from our Youth Committee, who takes full advantage of Menands’ beautiful parks, the school’s facilities and the Hall at the Fire House. Menands also sponsors a very active and involved Senior Community, a Beautification Committee and the Parks Committee.
The Village of Menands is fortunate to be located at the edge of the crossroads of two major highways and only minutes from downtown Albany, Troy, Schenectady and Saratoga. The Village is poised to take advantage of the economic boom associated with "Tech Valley" industries. The Board of Trustees is committed to the re-development of the Broadway Corridor and is exploring possibilities of accessing the Hudson Riverfront for both recreational and economic development.
To both upgrade services for our residents and to further enhance our future economic development, the Village is about to embark on the major undertaking of overhauling the Village's infrastructure. Better water, sewer and storm-water management systems should mean less emergency interruptions, less flooding and larger capacity. Long-term commitments for even longer term benefits will help keep Menands one of New York’s’ most safe and splendid communities for generations to come.
We invite you to visit, get to know and enjoy our community.
